Box of Guns Mistakenly Delivered to Delaware County High School
https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com | 8\23\22

A box of guns was delivered to a Delaware County high school in what police called an “honest mistake.”

Chester Upland School District Superintendent Dr. Craig Parkinson said they were expecting a delivery of textbooks and supplies for the start of the school year, but instead, something else arrived at the loading dock Friday.

Six guns were inside the package, officials said.

A Little Naval Gazing

UK’s Biggest Warship, HMS Prince of Wales, Breaks Down Off South Coast Shortly After Setting Sail for US
news.sky.com| Sunday 28 August | Deborah Haynes

The UK’s biggest warship has broken down off the south coast shortly after setting sail on what had been billed as a “landmark mission” to the United States.

HMS Prince of Wales, the second of the Royal Navy’s two aircraft carriers, was experiencing an “emerging mechanical issue”, a spokesperson said. The problem is being investigated.

The British aren’t coming! The British aren’t coming!

I was going to go all Nelson Muntz, but we ourselves had two warships collide in easily avoidable accidents, and Russia had the pride of its fleet catch fire in port. And . . .

When the Bonhomme Richard caught fire on a Sunday morning in July 2020, the firefighting response got off to a slow start, making it difficult to contain the fire. The ship ultimately burned for five days, and the Navy determined it would have to scrap the ship.

Retired Vice Adm. Rich Brown, who was in the role when the fire occurred, has told Defense News U.S. 3rd Fleet should have been more involved in the firefighting effort, according to his understanding of the chain of command described in a key fire safety document, but [Third Fleet] declined to take action that morning. Brown said he stepped in to fill a leadership void, but received a secretarial letter of censure on July 15 for his role in the fire.

But we got those bathroom and shower assignments figured out yet?

Expect Some Sudden Changes of da Rules in Some of These States

Residents in These 13 States Could Pay Taxes on Their Student Loan Relief
The Hill | 8/26/2022

Residents of 13 states who receive debt forgiveness from the federal government for their student loans may need to pay some state taxes on their forgiven amount, according to an analysis by the think tank Tax Foundation.

Jared Walczak, the vice president of state projects for the Center for State Tax Policy at the think tank, said in a blog post on Thursday that loan forgiveness is generally considered to be equivalent to income and is therefore taxable.

Walczak said that the American Rescue Plan, the $1.9 trillion package that President Biden signed into law in March 2021, exempts the forgiveness of student loan debt from 2021 to 2025 from federal income taxes.

States that follow the federal government’s lead will also exclude debt forgiveness, but not all states do.

Arkansas, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

“Wa-a-a-ah!  That’s not FAIR!  Everyone in the other 57 states and U.S. territories and dependencies should pay our tax bills!”

“I mean it! I’m thinking of skipping work otherwise.”
