Seeing isn’t always believing.
All the hoopla over “fake news” is kinda silly. Sure, some people will fall for anything. I don’t really mind it, though. It helps me identify who the real idiots are. Hint: almost everyone you meet.
Of course, misrepresenting the facts is nothing new. Sometimes, it’s just a joke. Sometimes, it’s something taken out of context. Sometimes, though, it’s an out and out lie.
One that was missed? Sure. The flag raising at Iwo Jima.
What? You didn’t know that iconic photo wasn’t real? Well, it was. However, it was the second flag raised. The first was a smaller flag, and there was not film crew taking pictures during the raising.
Oh, well. That’s what’s on my mind. But this is about you. What’s on your mind? What do you want to talk about? It’s Friday Night Open Thread, and it’s time for you to take over and discuss whatever you want.
Who wants to start?

Not a fake photo: Yves Klein’s “Leap into the Void”
That’s Klein himself in the picture. He was accomplished at Judo and trained himself the make the jump without getting hurt.
How about a classic cartoon from back when cartoons were funny. They were funny mostly cause no one worried about violence or who would have their feelings hurt because everyone knew it was all in fun. I give you Daffy Duck and Porky Pig in “Dime to Retire.” https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?fr=yfp-t-s&p=dime+to+retire#id=1&vid=951edd5ee53df74896e2ba610fc6ae23&action=click
For that, zzyzx, some people might need time travel. For a bit of news on that subject, I invite thee here:

Interesting. I have a close friend who believes UFO’s are actually manned by our descendants who are traveling back in time. I’m not totally convinced but his theory is interesting.
Talking about time travel brings me to my next WB classic cartoon made in 1941, it has absolutely no dialog and is still just as funny now, as the day it first appeared on the silver screen. In other words it’s timeless… https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?fr=yfp-t&p=Snow+Time+for+Comedy#id=1&vid=cd2b322b96bb815ff1d9c18206760999&action=click
Watch two comedic geniuses work their magic. “The Cook” a silent movie from 1918 with Fatty and Buster. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dYQwg9EFSQ
Amazing what could be done with pure genius and talent. Even the dog’s a better actor than many human stars these days.
Disjointed storyline, yes, but still more entertaining than a modern sitcom.
Lots of moments that I enjoyed the luxury of being able to rewind.
Were Fatty and Buster that good at juggling, or did they have to do like a million takes?
Doesn’t really matter, I guess.
Buster laughs at 13:20, putting an end to the myth that the ol’ Stone Face never laughed onscreen. (Of course you could say this was another character.)
Thank you for posting this. I’d never seen it (or goat-cart rides at amusement parks — pity they got rid of them). Thank goodness that digital archiving came along!
I give you the wonderful duet between Marcellina and Susanna in the first act of Mozart’s great opera Le Nozze di Figaro (in English, “The Marriage of Figaro”). I first heard it as a stand-alone piece, back in 1973 or so. It’s the piece that kindled my interest in opera.
Is it really true it ain’t over ’till the fat lady sings?
I’m not as fat as I used to be but it’s usually over when I start singing. Just sayin’.
