Possibly the marbles have steel cores, the white board’s backing is steel, there is an electromagnet attached to the white board’s backing, and the current to the electromagnet is turned off when the white board flips over.
They were in clear, maybe Lucite cups. Look above the top track where the marbles are positioned just after the board is flipped.
Yep. They look more like a clear channel to me, but obviously they only let the marble fall out when turned upside down
