Time for another best of Bond, James Bond villains edition.
We are combing both Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby because so few films are involved. Also, two from the Living Daylights. We need to make it interesting.

Franz Sanchez -Robert Davi – Licence to Kill

Ernst Stavro Blofeld – Telly Savalas – On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Brad Whitaker – Joe Don Baker – The Living Daylights

General Georgi Koskov – Jeroen Krabbé – The Living Daylights

Anyone who doesn’t vote for Robert Davi — star of The Goonies AND Die Hard — is a filthy commie who needs to be forcibly bathed, then punched repeatedly.
OK, if you passed on him for Kojak, then maybe only a quick dunking and a mild dope-slap. But that’s the only excuse.
I voted for Telly because he has a subcurrent of menace under his perpetual grin and pally, amused attitude. Other villains go straight to the tone of menace.
I guess I never saw The Living Daylights. I would have remembered Joe Don Baker. For better or worse.
He is one of the few actors to play both a bad Bond guy and a good Bond guy.
Here is a bar bet money maker: Who played the original James Bond? If you
answered Sean Connery, you would be wrong. Barry Nelson played James Bond
in the original Casino Royale on one of those live playhouse theater shows in
the late 50s. Barry Starred as a US agent working for the MI5 and his British
handler was Clarence Leiter. If you want to win the bet, don’t use the word
movie because it was aired on TV.
And if you don’t get beaten up for that one, try Walrus’s “Who play both a bad Bond guy and a good Bond guy?” on them.
Biggest win for that TV movie is that the villain was portrayed by the one actor in all of acting history who was truly meant to be a Bond villain. I am, of course, referring to Peter Lorre.
Lorre was one of the best TV and movie bad guy actors ever. One of my
all time favorites is the Face Behind The Mask, where Lorre plays a bad
guy who went straight. It turns into a revenge flick when he goes after
his old gang (I cannot say more without spoiling it.)
