Box of Human Heads Stolen From a Truck in Denver
KDVR | Carly Moore

It was near 23rd Avenue around 11 a.m. Thursday morning, when Denver Police said someone broke into a box truck and took a dolly and a box of human remains.

Sources told KDVR/KWGN it was a blue and white cardboard box about 20 x 15 x18 inches with “Science Care” written on the sides.

Inside the box? Human heads.

Science Care is a program for donating bodies to science to help improve scientific research and education. FOX31 has reached out to the company to learn more about the intended destination.

Biden Lashes Out at Reporter’s “Stupid Question” After Ukraine Gaffe
NY Post | 1/20/2022 | Steven Nelson

President Biden lashed out Thursday at a reporter for what he called a “stupid question” about Russia potentially invading Ukraine — as the White House scrambled to clean up Biden’s Wednesday gaffe that Russia may face less blowback for a “minor incursion.”

As reporters were escorted out of a science-focused meeting next door to the White House, Fox News correspondent Jacqui Heinrich shouted, “Why are you waiting on [Russian President Vladimir] Putin to make the first move, sir?”

Biden’s answer was not captured on the official video livestream, but press audio engineers recorded him saying, “What a stupid question,” according to a pool report by Yahoo’s Alexander Nazaryan.

Biden and his aides tried repeatedly Thursday to walk back the “minor incursion” remark — made during a 1 hour, 52 minute press conference — as horrified Ukrainian officials warned that Putin may see it as a “green light” to invade.

Friday Night Open Thread: Still Completely Asymptomatic

A Man Drowned. Six Weeks Later, He Was Still Testing Positive For COVID
iflscience.com | Feb. 17, 2022 | Katy Spalding

Last September, in the Italian seaside province of Chieti, a 41-year-old Ukrainian man and his friend went for a dip in the sea. Sixteen hours later, he was dead from drowning. A sad tale, but no medical mystery. Except for the fact that, for nearly six full weeks after his death, his body tested positive no fewer than 28 times for COVID-19 – a discovery that the researchers involved say is of “fundamental importance for pathologists.”

Would be interesting to see how those 28 positive tests were recorded in the weekly case reports.

Even weirder is the fact that, before death, the man had been “completely asymptomatic,” the team wrote in a study now published in the BMC Journal of Medical Case Reports, and is likely to have had a pretty low viral load when he died.

This “reflect the importance of postmortem swabs in all autopsy cases, and not only in potential [COVID-19]-related death,” the report notes – and shows that pathologists should test for the presence of COVID “a long time after the moment of death, even if a low initial viral load was assessed.”

. . . .

And not only were the COVID viral particles detectable for nearly six weeks after death, but by the end of the testing period they were the only detectable particles. See, when researchers test for COVID, they can also run a control test at the same time to verify that test results really are coming from the samples they want. They do this by testing for human cellular RNA which get swept up with the viral particles when a swab is taken – if no human RNA is found, then it probably didn’t come out of a human nose.

But by the time 41 days had passed, these tests weren’t picking up human RNA anymore. The COVID tests were still coming up positive, but the human cells had become undetectable.

Cats Cause Hundreds of House Fires [in Korea] and Injuries by Turning on Stoves
NY Post | 12/31/21| Hannah Sparks

Pet owners around the globe are being warned that their frisky felines make also quite effective firestarters, as a new safety review revealed that cats have been responsible for more than 100 house fires in South Korea over the past three years.

The Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Department reported on Thursday that they’d counted a total of 107 incidents of residential cat arson occurring between January 2019 and November 2021…

Experts believe cats most likely prompted the fires to spread by switching on electric burners as they wantonly traipsed over touch-sensitive buttons on the surface of a hotplate. Left on too long, the appliances can overheat and catch fire, according to the department.

Slightly more than half of the fires in South Korea started while homeowners were out, but four people have been injured in cases of cat arson, per the report.

“Cat-related fires are continuing to occur recently,” said department official Chung Gyo-chul in a statement. “We advise households with pets to pay extra attention as fire could spread widely when no one is at home.”

Apart from feliney endangerment,

Ex-Bank CEO: $220,000 Spent at Strip Clubs Was Business Expense
NY Post | 25 Jan 2022 | Ariel Zilber

A one-time Swiss banking CEO who is on trial for fraud now says that the nearly $220,000 he spent at strip clubs was a legitimate business expense.

Meanwhile, Swiss prosecutors have also alleged that Vincenz ran up a $4,500 hotel bill that included repairs to the room after he and a stripper he was dating at the time got into a “massive” fight that caused significant damage.

Prosecutors want the 65-year-old Vincenz and his co-defendants to pay restitution totaling $77 million and serve six years in prison.

All seven who have been charged are denying the allegations.
