A while back, one of my sisters asked me why the quarterback was called the quarterback. I didn’t know what to tell her, but I never let that stop me. But I thought about it for a second — maybe not quite that long — and gave her an explanation. Now, I didn’t go into all the detail about it, but I did get the basics right. And, if you think about it, you can figure it out, too. Give it a shot before you play the video. Betcha get it right.

Huh. What do they call the third back in the Power I? They still say halfback, right? Or lead fullback? Hmm.
Quarterback – Half Back – Fullback – Tail Back. I think it dates back to when passing was a minor if not non-existent play option. Having them all line up in a row gives you their position on the field and their names. [tailback might be before full back.] Well that is my educated guess. Can I skip the video?
Of course. Still, I do find the video interesting, even if Simon knows nothing about the game; he freely admits he’s the presenter, not the researcher and writer.
