The Thomas Jefferson Workout: It Involves Guns

A quote from America’s 3rd President:

A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks.

I’m assuming he was referring to soccer in the penultimate line.

Warren’s 1/16th Mom Doesn’t Claim Heritage That 1/32 Elizabeth Does

NO_MO_BAMA [High Praise!] pointed me to Thoughts From Polly’s Granddaughter, who’s all over the issue of Elizabeth Warren’s heritage, with documentation to back it up:

Ms. Warren’s mother is never found as anything but white in documentation.

Pauline Louise Reed, the mother of Ms. Warren, was the child of Harry G. Reed and Bethania “Hannie” Crawford. She was born in Hughes County, Oklahoma, on February 14, 1912. She was found on the 1920 US Census living in Hickory Ridge, Okfuskee County, Oklahoma with her parents and siblings, race listed as white.

She was found on the 1930 US Census living in Wetumka, Hughes County, Oklahoma with her parents, race listed as white.

She married Don Herring on January 2, 1932 in Hughes County, Oklahoma. She was found on the 1940 US Census living in Wetumka, Hughes County, Oklahoma with her husband and children, race listed as white. She died July 18, 1995.

Now does that look like someone who was “so Cherokee” they had to elope?

Elizabeth Warren herself listed “Aunt Bea” as White on death certificate.

Fauxcahontas family documented white since 1858

Village Voice Declares IMAO New Poster Child for Intolerance

Well, Frank had the audacity to imply that Democrats lack the intestinal fortitude to lead a nation of rugged individualists, and now the Village Voice has made it a point to declare that calling Democrats “sissies” is a “fag joke“.

How un-nuanced.

Nobody’s saying Democrats are homosexual men (Barney Frank SAYS he is, but he lies a LOT).

We’re saying that Democrats show the wisdom, courage, logic, and leadership of 8-year-old girls.

Which is completely different.

The Difference Between Bush’s Wide Receiver and Obama’s Fast and Furious: The Short Version

[via Doug Ross]
______________

“Wide Receiver [the Bush-era operation] was a gun smuggling interdiction effort that involved Phoenix-based ATF agents working in conjunction with Mexican law enforcement. It was a Phoenix border operation only. They were trying to build a case against a violent group of Mexican drug smugglers and the Mexican drug cartel to discover who they were and where they could be found. Wide Receiver began in 2005, involved 400 weapons, and all the weapons had RFID trackers installed in them. The Mexican government was informed and actively involved. The program was ended in 2007 when the drug dealers discovered the trackers that had been installed. No lives were lost.

Fast and Furious was begun in 2009 by the Obama administration and was an unconstitutional effort to build a case against American gun dealers, American private gun owners, and the Second Amendment. The Mexican government wasn’t involved in Fast and Furious. Over 300 people were killed, including two Americans. Wide Receiver no longer existed; it had been shut down for two years. Fast and Furious involved over 2,000 guns. The Obama regime didn’t care where the weapons ended up. There were no tracking devices and no effort was made to track them. No helicopters. There was no on-the-ground surveillance of the straw purchasers. The guns were sold and then walked across the border, and that was it. Four federal agencies were involved in maybe as many as 10 cities in five states. Fast and Furious was Obama’s effort to gain false information so he could use the information to introduce his gun control bill.”

Although I’m very happy that SOMEONE figured out how to make the “Gun Running for Dummies” statement that the average civilian needs to get a layman’s understanding of what’s going on, it pisses me off to no end that not a single “journalist” thought to do this over the many, many month’s that Holder’s scandal was brewing.

Two paragraphs. Two lousy stinking paragraphs. Is that REALLY too high to set the bar for minimal journalistic integrity?

Proof From the Wisconsin Election: NOTHING is Funnier Than a Liberal in Full Pout

I posted the edited version of this interview of disappointed progressive liberal anarchist Thistle Petterson (aka Vera de Milo aka Pippi Bongstocking) shortly after the Wisconsin elections ended.

Thanks to Jammie Wearing Fool, here’s the full 7-minute interview:

[YouTube direct link] (Viewer #43,700)

I’m not sure why I find this as hilarious as I do. Maybe it’s that petulant kid-denied-candy scowl. Maybe it’s the way her eyes roll up as she scans her bong-watered stream of consciousness for the next stereotypical hippie talking point to trot out (even if it’s not even remotely election-related). Maybe it’s the way spittle flies when she sneers “military-industrial-media complex!”

Maybe all of the above.

But it’s DEFINITELY the way that – when asked what she wants for the future at 3:36 – she describes, utterly sans realization of the irony, EXACTLY how the Tea Party movement sprouted and grew.

Awesome Nail Gun Even Awesomer Than You Thought – Only Shoots Bullets

4of7 [High Praise!] sent me this picture and accompanying explanation, which he received via Million-Times-Forwarded-Email:

A must have in every home in America !

For everyone who would rather not have a gun in the house!

In view of the recent Supreme Court ruling, sales of this new product may skyrocket.

Washington thinks they are going to take away our guns, so check this out. I like it!

NAIL GUNS! AND, you don’t even have to REGISTER them or have LICENSES for them!

AND, you don’t have to worry about them being CONCEALED!

Just a LOT of good stuff to do with THIS!

Once in awhile something so totally cool comes out that even a guy who doesn’t normally know what he’d like for Father’s Day or Christmas would immediately ask for it:

Thank you, DeWalt!!!

New Nail Gun, made by DeWalt

It can drive a 16-D nail through a 2×4 at 200 yards.

This makes construction a breeze, you can sit in your lawn chair and build a fence.

Hundred round magazine.

Someone invades your home, just nail his ass!

Turns out this isn’t a nail gun. It’s a fully-functional M-16. The creator talks about how he went about making it, and also serves up more pictures at Toolmonger.com

An Open Letter to New Bloggers: The Only Guide You’ll Ever Need to Boost Your Traffic

[Inspired by Keln of Nuking Politics, who asked me for advice. Figured the answer might be helpful to more than just him]

You want to build traffic, and it’s going slow, and it’s frustrating.

Bad news. It’s just going to take time and there are no shortcuts.

All you can do is work the fundamentals:

Post as often as you can.

Make your commentary as original as you can.

Build relationships with your readers – comment on their comments, answer their emails, praise them in your posts if something they said inspired you to write it.

Finally – write in an entertaining fashion.

For example, I could have introduced a video of whiny hippies by saying:

“Ha ha, sad hippies.”

Which would’ve been adequate.

What I said was this:

“Mostly just watch this for the schadenfreudey goodness only attainable via the sweet, sweet lamentations of spirit-crushed socialists”.

And someone linked the post SPECIFICALLY because they liked that sentence.

Never underestimate the power of a good turn of phrase.

You’re a man on a public stage now.

Be entertaining.

Bloomberg Busted in Huge Lie About Soda Ban

[High Praise! to Son of Bob]

Liberals can’t keep their damn math straight. Especially when it doesn’t serve their propaganda purposes.

Here’s the Size/Calorie/Sugar infographic from Bloomberg’s Facebook page:

Just at a glance, those figures seem odd, since doubling the size from 32oz to 64oz should make the calories 748, not 780.

Well, I crunched some numbers on a spreadsheet:

Basically they reduced the numbers for the 16oz drink to make it seem like a wise top-end cup size, used the correct number again on the 32oz, and then jacked up the numbers for the 64oz to make it seem more egregious.

So either someone at the Mayor’s office is abominable at simple math, or Bloomberg knows it’s a big, stinking lie, and just doesn’t give a damn.

Either way, I’m calling shenanigans.

Obama Using Banks to Target Gun Manufacturer?

[High Praise! to Jimmy]

Straight from the McMillan Firearms Facebook page:
______________

McMillan Fiberglass Stocks, McMillan Firearms Manufacturing, McMillan Group International have been collectively banking with Bank of America for 12 years. Today Mr. Ray Fox, Senior Vice President, Market Manager, Business Banking, Global Commercial Banking came to my office. He scheduled the meeting as an “account analysis” meeting in order to evaluate the two lines of credit we have with them. He spent 5 minutes talking about how McMillan has changed in the last 5 years and have become more of a firearms manufacturer than a supplier of accessories.

At this point I interrupted him and asked “Can I possible save you some time so that you don’t waste your breath? What you are going to tell me is that because we are in the firearms manufacturing business you no longer what my business.”

“That is correct” he says.

I replied “That is okay, we will move our accounts as soon as possible. We can find a 2nd Amendment friendly bank that will be glad to have our business. You won’t mind if I tell the NRA, SCI and everyone one I know that BofA is not firearms industry friendly?”

“You have to do what you must” he said.

“So you are telling me this is a politically motivated decision, is that right?”

Mr Fox confirmed that it was. At which point I told him that the meeting was over and there was nothing let for him to say.

I think it is import for all Americans who believe in and support our 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms should know when a business does not support these rights. What you do with that knowledge is up to you. When I don’t agree with a business’ political position I can not in good conscience support them. We will soon no longer be accepting Bank of America credit cards as payment for our products.

Makes me wish I had a B of A credit card just so I could cancel it and tell them why.

Also, I know nothing about McMillan products, so if anyone does, please tell what you know in the comments.

Meanwhile, you can always visit the McMillan web site, hit the “contact us” link, and voice your support.

And if you find out that McMillan products are good quality as well as fitting your personal needs and your budget, buy them.

Then email them to let them know you did.

Morale’s probably a little shaky around the office right now. Having your banker do a rug-yank on you tends to make folks unsettled.

And feel free to drop B of A a line, too, since that’s your tax money they’re refusing to let McMillan have a penny of.

UPDATE: Mxymaster [High Praise!] offers a link to Snopes which evaluated the story as “undetermined”. However the spokesperson only said that B of A has “no policy” against dealing with firearms companies. Well, being under threat by Obama’s knee-breakers technically isn’t a policy, so she didn’t lie.

Also, they mention B of A is still dealing with gun-maker Freedom Group, Inc.

All that means is that FGI hasn’t gotten “the talk” yet. Doesn’t mean it’s not on the way.

How I spent my summer vacation

Some of you noticed I’ve been away for a bit. Okay, two of you noticed. And one of them was Frank. And that was only because I owe him some money. I forget why. I think I lost a bet. But I’ll get that back on September 3rd in Athens.

Anyway, I’ve been away. I took vacation from work the week of Sarah K’s birthday. I’ve taken that day, or the whole week if possible, off work every year for 17 years in a row. The last time I worked on her birthday was in 1993, and that’s because I was stationed in Korea.

During the week of July 19 (Sarah’s birthday), I went to Valdosta and spent some time with my son. That was fun. Wife and I then spent some time in Montgomery. And, yes, that was just as much fun as it sounds.

Spent some time adding an Xbox to the Internet TV setup. For ESPN 3. Not for gaming. Because video games are stupid and dumb. And I won’t be playing games on it. Or adding a 250 GB drive to it. Or buying a second controller. Or adding Microsoft points to my account. Or customizing an avatar. Or playing Peggle. Or customizing a Game Room. Or several rooms in Game Room. Or any of those other stupid things that people with Xboxes do. Nope. Not me. ESPN3 only for my Xbox.

Also spent some time worrying about my grandson, who broke his arm at football practice. He’ll be okay. Other grandson is still playing, so we’ll be attending some of those games.

All this doesn’t take all that much time or interfere with much. But there’s this one other thing going on: work.

I don’t blog about work. So, when I don’t blog, it’s about work.

So, while I was away, what did I miss?

Gold was 1,596.95/ounce the last time I posted something here. It’s 1,852.10/ounce now.

The Dow was 12,479.73 when I last posted. It’s 10,817.65 now.

The last time you heard from me, Obama was doing a piss-poor job as president and the economy was tanking. Today, Obama is doing a piss-poor job as president and the economy is tanking.

I’m not sure if my being away made things worse. But, just in case, you’ll be putting up with me some more now.

You have been warned.

How we got in this mess in the first place

This is a true story. And as I lived it, I came to realize that it’s a good example of just how our country got into this financial mess.

It’s my own mini, but true, version of Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House and it started a few weeks ago. Wife was inspired. She decided that we needed to paint the bathroom walls. She wanted to change from a blue-scheme wallpaper to green painted walls. So she picked out some $40-something a gallon Martha Stewart paint.

Turns out the paint didn’t go on the walls. It went on the base paint. That was around $20-something a gallon. So in order to cover the walls, it was actually $60-something a gallon.

After the walls were done, the floor didn’t match. Because they were a blue theme, those cheap floor tiles had to go. Wife wanted wood floors. So, that’s what we got. I lost count of how much the wood, stain, polyurethane, and all such cost. But it did look good.

But now the vanity top didn’t match. It was blue. So, she picked out a new one. A white marble top with a molded sink. A little over $200. And it looked really good.

That meant we needed to change the faucet. The old one didn’t look good with it. Really, it didn’t.

So, she found one. It’s oil-rubbed bronze, or Venetian bronze, or Tuscan bronze, or some sort of bronze or something. And the spout looked like an old-style hand pump spout. And it was a little under $200. But it looked really good.

Of course, that meant that the drawer handles, door handles, and hinges on the vanity cabinet didn’t match. So we had to find new ones in oil-rubbed bronze, buy those, and replace the old ones. The hinges were hard to find. I had to order them from a place in Spokane, Washington. Which jacked the price of the 4 hinges up from under $4 to about $20.

Oh, and the towel rack needed to be replaced so it would match ($43). And the hand towel rack ($21). And the toilet paper holder ($21). And the bath robe hooks ($25).

And the door stop. And the door handle. And the door hinges. And the handle and hinges on the bathroom closet door as well. That all totaled around $80.

And the light fixture didn’t match. But a new one that did ran $99.

Oh, and the shower curtain rod. Needed one that matched. It was $50 for one that was the right style and color.

Remember the new white marble sink? Now the toilet didn’t match. So, we had to replace it. That was around $240 for a chair-height, elongated, dual-flush white toilet.

Then, of course, we had to get new bath rugs and accessories — fuzzy mat outside the tube, fuzzy mat in front of the vanity, the little fuzzy thing that goes around the toilet base, and a fuzzy toilet seat cover — and towels and such. Which together totaled a little under $200.

If you’ve been adding all this up as we’ve gone along, you’ll realize that we passed the $1,000 mark some time ago. And that’s only because we did the work ourselves. Well, us and one of the sons-in-law.

What we ended up with was a lot of work and a lot of money spent. But it all matches the shower curtain.

The shower curtain? Yes, the shower curtain she bought on sale for $10 from the K-Mart a while back. We did all that painting and replacing stuff so the bathroom would match a $10 shower curtain.

And that’s how the country ends up spending too much money on stuff.

Of course, now you understand how one thing leads to another, and that good intentions can end up with unexpected consequences and unexpected expenses.

The difference, though, is that we didn’t decide to begin a series of things that cost way too much money and have you pay for it. We paid for it ourselves. So, it’s not a financial impact on you. And we aren’t passing the debt along to your grandchildren.

The government, who has even less sense than we do, ends up spending 130 times as much as it should on stuff — but they make you pay for it.

It makes you want to beat a politician with a stick.

I don’t have a stick. But now I got a spare shower curtain rod. It ought to do the trick.
