Kevin Drum tries to explain how the New York Times ruining spy programs is actually beneficial to the War on Terror. If I had thought of this argument before him, it would have made a nice absurdist humor piece. Meant seriously, it’s a bit pathetic.
This could be a fun mental exercise, though. In the comments, take something disastrous and explain the upside to it.
E.g. “Few people talk about how the Black Plague freed up real-estate leading to cheap homes for the survivors.”
and
“If Hillary Clinton is elected President, at least I can sleep in Sundays since I’ll know for certain there is no God.”

1. None of the so called “documentary” has even a shred of credibility in its arguments. I never saw Fahrenheit 911 , but I know it was tripe. I did see Bowling for Columbine because when I was in Baghdad, I think I saw every DVD that was ever made. Okay, this annoys me to no end.
Frank, I beg your forgiveness for pimping my blog, but I highly recomment people read this post of mine (“The Bin Ladin Group vs. Usama bin Ladin”) for some perspective on the Bin Ladin Group.
The realities of the situation are different than how they may be portrayed. In other words, Moore’s allegation that there are close ties between the Bush family and the Bin Ladin family (more correctly, the Bin Ladin Group) is an utter misrepresentation: he’s not explaining what this actually means.
When you’ve lived in an Arab country and have seen “Bin Ladin Group” on the barriers of construction sites for years, one learns to be sensitive to realities as they are rather than as some may want them to be.
