Don’t know which is funnier – the fact that the snooties at Village Voice “slammed” Frank J with an Evelyn Waugh reference because his OBAMA ATE A DOG jokes hurt their feelings, or the fact that in the comments, Jim Treacher trolls the crap out of the Village Voice readership, and they just keep crying louder and coming back for more:
Just a small sample:
Daphne: ya know tho, in a way he is winning. Not the contest he imagines, of course, but the doubling down on a pathetic punchline must be worthy of some kind of prize.
itisdancing: Well, he has some competition in the second grade. Although he has a better attention span than the average second-grader. You have to give him that.
Jim Treacher: Did you hear the one about Obama eating a dog?
Jim Treacher: The prize is your anger.
itisdancing: Anger? Oh, you poor dear.
Jim Treacher: In your case, it’s just strong irritation. Daphne, though… my word.
Q: How many Village Voice readers does it take to defend Obama’s dog-eating?
A: THAT’S NOT FUNNY!

Hot dogs and french (poodle) fries are Obama’s favorite food…
I love how the Romney team took this to the Obama gang. The Chicago machine brought a gun to the fight (Romney’s dog on top of the family station wagon) and the Romney’s shot them in the face with a cannon. I don’t think we’ll be hearing any more snickering comments about Romney’s dog, who unlike the dog in Obama’s book, survived the experience.
@Silverfiddle – I think a more apt metaphor is that Treacher blew up the ammo dump behind their lines. They supplied the explosives (Obama’s “autobiography”) and now they have nothing to shoot back with.
Thanks for the pointer to the Village Idiots! What fun it is to troll the comments. I’ve never really done that sort of thing, but had to follow Treach’s lead. And despite a former dust-up with Treacher, I still think he has totally rocked this meme and deserves all blogstar status for the effort.
I posted something about a similar situation at another site.
________
It’s as if they held a strategy session on Madison Avenue:
“What images sell the most products?”
”That would be women, children and puppies.”
“And the most powerful base motivations?”
”Hate, fear, envy, resentment, entitlement mentality…”
“Brilliant! We’ll say the right hates women and minorities, they want to take away your stuff, your choice and your health, and their policies will destroy the planet for your kids, just to line their own fat pockets…oh…and their candidate is CRUEL TO DOGS! Well, we’ll show THEM — we’ll just take THEIR stuff and give it to those who deserve it! That means YOU, if you vote for US.”
Then, when they get called on the nonsense and hypocrisy after raking tons of irrelevant muck, they pick apart any rational response, branding it as bigoted, sexist, ignorant or hateful. They then call a “truce” if they’re smart — until things calm down and they can start in again on some other similar non-issues.
They seem kinda touchy about this whole “Obama eats dogs” deal.

Excellent analogy. I love it!
Jim Treacher: You’re my new hero. It ain’t gonna be a pretty boy cake walk for Obama this time…

JT: Wait… Obama ate a dog?
That’s some funny stuff. Treach is a national treasure.
Obama: I ate dogs!
Twitter: HOLY CRAP, YOU ATE DOGS??
VV: Whatever. Romney put one on a car!
JT: Dude, Obama says he ate dogs.
VV Commenters: You’re gay!
VV Commenters: Also probably racist.
VV Commenters: And TOTALLY not worth our time.
VV Commenters: Which is why we’re ignoring you.
JT: So when did Obama stop eating dogs?
Pretty much. I also like when they scream at you, and then when you laugh at them you’re “obsessed.” They’re really having a tough time with this whole thing. Isn’t it wonderful?
It’s cracking me the hell up. The left is so completely non-self-aware. If that’s even a word.
It is a word! I shall make it one! I shall give it the definition: Democrat!
Ta-da!
BTW: I hope Obama writes another book. Maybe he’ll write about that time he watched horse porn or something.
Book – since Obama seems to be tracking Glenn Reynold’s career of evil, I’m guessing it’ll either be about hobo-murdering or Satan-worshiping.
There’s nothing like the bond that forms between father and son when, one brisk fall morning, junior bags his first hobo and sacrifices the remains to Malphas.
“How bad do you want to get into Harvard, son?” asked the man as he picked his teeth with a matchbook cover that advertised the local anarchists’ bookshop…
If you give a man a dog you feed him for a day. But if you teach a man how to be a dog rancher, you feed him for a lifetime. #FamousObamaQuotes
If you haven’t trolled the comments section on that Village Voice piece, you have no idea what you’re missing.
Wow, I haven’t seen such epic trolling like that since I used to schlum around the ESPN college football forums (AKA Troll Academy). Well done Mr. Treacher. I was literally in tears laughing. Even when there was an awkward, ridiculous retort, you just respond with “Hey, did you hear that Obama eats dogs?” LOL…
You had a few zingers in there too Bob and Joan. Well done people. No better entertainment than watching these silly goofs on the left squirm a bit.
Treacher was brilliant…it was funny every time. And, they got angrier every time.
SoB – Ya know, it’s been a week, and by God I should REALLY be over it by now, but the phrase “Obama ate a dog” as a response to pretty much anything a liberal says STILL never fails to amuse me.
Harvey, it truly is the gift that just keeps giving.
“The joke quickly advanced to the first ranks of conservative satirists.”
First Rank? Atta’boy, Frank!
Who’s Evelyn Waugh?
4of7 – I had to Google it, too. Some boring early-20th Century writer of [snooty] “literature” [/snooty] that no one’s ever actually read except by direct order of a stuffy, dried-up, high-school English teacher.
Or possibly someone else who was famous for eating dogs.
Hard to say how the liberal mind works.
It’s my personal opinion that the British author’s last name should henceforth be pronounced “woof.”
