Is Obamacare Derogatory?

Jon Stewart seems concerned that the term “Obamacare” is derogatory. Is it?

Well, it combines Obama’s very unpopular health care bill with Obama’s increasingly unpopular name, so, yeah, I guess it’s derogatory. If Obamacare were popular, then it would be complimentary. As it is, it’s pretty derogatory. It’s not fair to compare it to the term “teabagger” though as that was chosen because its the name of a vulgar sex act. I don’t think Obamacare is a vulgar sex act, and if it is, I really don’t want to hear what that is. I could only guess it would be very unpleasant and not at all consensual. “Just stop struggling; I promise you’ll love it!”

  1. Honestly – When I say “Obamacare,” I am being derogatory. But this is an interesting question.

    I’m trying to think of other cases where a policy was spliced with a President’s name and the one that keeps coming up in my head is Reagonomics. I think the left invented the Term, Reagonomics, to be derogatory, but the right liked Reagon’s economic policy so much that they embraced the term, too.

    The other case – and this is a stretch – is the whole “Bush Doctrine” thing, that has amorphous meanings. I’m not sure if that was invented to be derogatory, or not. I support Bush’s approach to the GWOT, however, so I embrass that, too.

  2. One more thing – as I said, when I say “Obamacare” I am beign derogatory. And if I want to be really derogatory I say “Pelosicare.”

    But am I correct? That is, is “Pelosicare” more or less derogatory than “Obamacare”?

  3. Oh, and one more thing – If I want to call someone an idiot, I sometimes use the term “Obamanomics,” like this:

    “Oh, so you think it encourages economic growth by taxing productivity and subsidizing sloth? You support Obamanomics.”

    {So then I can call them an idiot without having to say it out loud.}

  4. storm1911, I believe Obamacare left out the children, as an oversight, as it likewise left out the legislators themselves.

    Of course it’s derogatory – because he’s black!

    I think we should call any Obama supporter a ‘Hot Carl’.

  5. -If the Tea party was about race then why would they care about November when Obama is not even up for election?

    Jonah Goldberg:

    -We are fond of saying that the answer to free-speech problems is more free speech. But we seem incapable of grasping that sometimes — and only sometimes — the solution to capitalism’s problems is more capitalism.

    -dissent has gone from being the highest form of patriotism under George W. Bush to the most common form of racism under Barack Obama.

  6. Their military tactics were state of the art when Britannia ruled the waves, even recently. Just ask any historian of Chinese and African and North American colonialism, Napoleon’s era, or a family member of the crew of the Bismark, or the Argentinian military, or the IRA, and you might get an inkling of how well the British tactics worked over several centuries.

    When the greens succeed in emasculating the entire country, perhaps the immigrants will take over and realize that a large part of British success in the world is like selling real estate – success depends on location, location, location. The island will still be there, even when the first Muslim PM declares jihad against France.
