So do the billionaires and millionaires everyone whines about owe more money than they have in debt or is that just Congress?
So the Dem response to “We can’t keep spending like this forever” is “Shut up! Shut up! SHUT UP!”?
If it were me, I’d come back with a proposal to lower the debt ceiling.
That’s it; let’s just go ahead and default. It will be exciting!
True change is painful and scary.
Usually it’s tax increases with promises of spending cuts that never come true. The opposite would be nice.

We gotta hold the line on this one. We have a defacto balanced budget amendment. Our only problem is we have crybaby weenies for leaders and they are likely to give it all away in compromises unless we the people can manage to be scarier to them than the democrats.
Anyone living within their means is a member of a cult.
How to cut taxes and spending:
1. Enact one of the following as a Constitutional amendment:
Option a: Two weeks prior to the deadline all congress persons be marched into a room with only their pay stubs, receipts, and 1099’s. They will have access to calculators, pencils, and all IRS forms but will have to complete their tax forms by themselves. No help from accountants or each other. No one leaves the room until they are all finished and the forms mailed. No deductions may be made to any income received directly or indirectly as a result of them being a congress person.
Option b: Each congress person will place all their tax information into a sealed box. Each document will be coded so that no one will know who’s information it is unless they have the key. A national lottery will be held among those who had to pay additional Federal taxes for the previous tax year. The winners will each be given a box and will complete the tax form(s) for the information provided by themselves with no help either by a person or software. No questionable or illegal actions may be taken, but they may not be forced to take all deductions nor informed of any they missed. The result will be what is submitted as the congress person’s return.
2. Mandatory auditing of all returns from congress people.
3. If a tax increase is passed, then it is implemented as follows:
a. If none of a state’s reps or senators voted for the tax, a 100% moratorium of the tax for a year and a day for that state.
b. For each senator that did not vote for the tax, reduce the tax by 25% for a year and a day.
c. Divide 50% of the tax by the number of representatives (round up) and for each rep that did not vote for the tax, reduce the tax by that percentage for a year and a day.
4. All Federal taxes and regulations will be for a five year period unless repealed. They may be re-enacted by a simple majority but the enforcement will follow the rules in step 3 above.
5. On the 1st and the 15th of each month, the FCC will require all television stations to run a PSA that will tell the people of the state how each of their congress persons voted for the last tax bill and their websites will provide historical information on previous votes.
6. Determine the ratio of working adults to any recipients of local, state, or federal welfare. For every percentage point below 90% (working to moochers) the congress person’s pay will be reduced by a percentage point.
7. Make all congress person’s current medial coverage and retirement pay the responsibility of the state they served. At each general state election the voters will have the opportunity to reduce the levels (super majority), or increase the levels (super majority). If neither receives enough votes, then the current levels will stand.
8. All income received after leaving congress, regardless of the new job or profession, will be taxed at the highest current rate for 4 years after leaving office with only standard deductions.
How did I offend the “God of Moderation” now?
Why is Harry Reid afraid of a balanced budget amendment? It’s not like he ever produces actual budgets that would have to be balanced.
If we raise the debt ceiling, even if we double it, triple it or raise it by a factor of 10, we will be right back here again only broker and madder.
Obama spent more than all the debt ever up thru Reagan. If we give him a blank check he will just ask ” what comes after trillion? Gazzillion?”

No, I don’t think he will. I don’t think Obama ever asks questions. He thinks that he knows all the answers. He’ll just make a word up for what is properly called a “quadrillion”, and people like Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann will call us racists for laughing at the fact that he just made a word up.
I would like to see a constitutional amndment to 1; lower the debt ceiling, 2; conifiscate the playstations, I-phones, big screen TVs, and other goodies we taxpayers paid for and auction it all off to help cover the debt, 3; mandate for hippie face punching. A good start.
That’s an easy answer, FormerHostage; you talked too much and too smart.
@FormerHostage-Your offending post was #3. It mentioned tax increases. LOL
“If it were me, I’d come back with a proposal to lower the debt ceiling.”
Ha, Boehner and McConnell on offense instead of defense? Never happen. That would take both guts and a plan…and they have neither.
