Remember music videos? Trick question. Music videos still exist. But, how did they begin? Every now and then it’s interesting to see some early videos, just to see how things have progressed. Sometimes for the better, sometimes not.

The first music videos were called “operas”.
Then they stopped playing music and started showing reality shows like, Real Housewives of the Holy Roman Empire and game shows like Win Ben Disraeli’s Money.
It’s been downhill since then.

In about 1980 or so, my friends and I attended a church teen group on Friday nights. We made sure we were back at someone’s house no later than 11:30 (IIRC) to watch Friday Night Videos on MuchMusic (the Canadian version of MTV). That, of course, was back when music channels on TV actually played music instead of the aforementioned reality shows.
