Chicago Moves to Eliminate “High-Achieving” School Programs

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Board of Education are following the lead of other major cities and eliminating gifted school programs in the name of achieving greater racial and social “equity.” Eleven “high-achieving selective-enrollment schools” will be eliminated, according to Chicago Board of Education CEO Pedro Martinez, to reduce “stratification and inequity.” …

President Jianan Shi has portrayed gifted programs as just adding stress by allowing some students to achieve higher levels of education. …

One can imagine how thrilled countries like China must be as we decapitate our educational system to bring down both standards and schools to a low median.

  1. I went to school in Indiana. When I went, there was no accelerated programs available for students (I don’t know if Indiana ever did add one). But there were programs for kids that were, as we called them then, retarded. Millions were spent trying to teach the unteachable minimal skills like tying their shoes, or reading at a first grade level. I’m talking about people who would need minders all their life. I often wondered why they wasted money like that. The people that will eliminate disease, figure out how people can live forever, etc. are going to come out of the other end of the IQ spectrum, and if you’re looking for return on investment, that’s where the money should be spent. I always figured it was just a case of government thinking that smart people didn’t need help in school, so why give it to them? And here’s Chicago deliberately eliminating such programs because some kids feelings might get hurt because they weren’t selected. Next it will be no Prom King and Queen, or class President, because those not selected will have their feelings hurt.

It’s no wonder why the latest generation entering the workforce thinks that their performance shouldn’t matter to being retained.

  2. I’m shocked Brandon Brown hasn’t changed his name yet with all these brainless Democrats sullying it on a daily basis. Chicago was better when Capone ran it.

My GPA was solid, but nothing compared to the hard-working, gifted students who were killing it in the advanced classes. Back then, those students were admired, not held back to the lowest common denominator. I am almost surprised Newsom hasn’t done education this stupidly as well, and require the classes be in Spanish to ensure no one has an advancement prayer. No problem, I am sure prayer is outlawed in California too.
