Ireland Can No Longer Accommodate All Seeking Asylum, Dept. Confirms
RTÉ News | 4 Dec 2023
Ireland: The Department of Integration can no longer provide accommodation to all international protection applicants, due to a severe shortage.
In a statement this afternoon, a spokesperson for the Department said tents and sleeping bags will be provided to people where required.
Should be comfortable in winter.
A total of 107 people were accommodated over the weekend; however, from today, the State is not in a position to accommodate everyone.
Women and children will still be accommodated, the spokesperson added.
How sexist and ageist of them.
Over 100,000 people are currently being accommodated in Ireland. […]
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, (Lucky) Khambule (from MASI, the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland) said the State is required to provide accommodation for people arriving into the country “in accordance with the EU directive of which Ireland is signatory to”.
That’s a lot of loose prepositions floating around.
He said more buildings should have been secured by the department and there is a lack of effort in securing those buildings around the country.
Does Lucky own a house that could be used?
AND NOW: {drumroll} . . .
Two of the most incoherent sentences you will ever read outside of a Biden speech. They clearly don’t teach sentence construction to spokesmen:
“With the fact that they are allowing the fear that is imposed by the local communities, powered by the far right to refuse to accommodate people seeking protecting in this country.
“We have seen it in Kerry, we have seen it in Leitrim, for the places that were earmarked for that.”
Is “The Department of Integration” in Ireland is now to be deemed an extremist organization, since they, too, oppose further immigration?
