For three years, computer programmer Thor Boucher hasn’t paid a cent of his bargain-rate $2,000-a-month, two-bedroom, one-bathroom Essex Street pad, claiming he didn’t have to because the building was noisy and shook, according to landlord Ed Yau and Manhattan Civil Court documents.
The alleged freeloader had no qualms renting the space out, though, charging as much as $1,950 per room monthly since November 2021 on platforms including Airbnb and Craigslist.
I was going to say “Don’t hire this programmer,” but I figured that IMAO would be on the line for a lawsuit. This way, I’m just a commenter, and the site ain’t responsible.
Gotta change the laws on squatting. I’m sure the local government will get right on that.

— show where that evidence is? i haven’t been able to find this evidence to be “fact”. The other thing i question is the person in the apartment who admits is not the tenant who leased, are they really paying the tentant or just saying that? – once has to wonder, especially when looking at the videos from NYPost to other venues including the Asian China paper videos – they are not 1 in the same, someone has done some slicing… maybe to pick up more media attention.
