* The White House website still touts Obama’s pledge to halve the deficit. It was $1.3 trillion, and for the fiscal year of 2012, the deficit is projected to be $1.3 trillion. I would check the math on whether $1.3 trillion is one half of $1.3 trillion, but my calculator doesn’t accept numbers that big.
So he didn’t divide the deficit by two, but he did divide it by one. That’s halfway there.
* I was thinking: Isn’t good economic news bad for Obama at this point? Right now, it’s starting to look like the economy is doing better, but a lot of that is because people are so discouraged that they stopped looking for work thus taking themselves out of the unemployment statistics. That gives an artificially low unemployment rate, but if word gets out that the economy is doing better, those people may start looking for work again and suddenly unemployment will go up again because of more people in the workforce. So, best strategy for Obama may be to keep the economy hurting — which he’s much better at than helping it anyway.
* There’s a huge protest at U.S. base in Afghanistan over rumors that a Koran was burned. Things must be going great in that country such that they have no other problems to deal with other than rumors of a book being burned. No wonder things are so awesome in the Middle East!
* Apparently a teenaged girl was knocked up by Hitler. Expect this to enter the contraceptive debate. Of course, you may believe contraceptives will protect your daughter from having Hitler’s love child, but you probably should raise your daughter in a way where she wouldn’t sleep with Hitler in the first place.
* Dick Cheney is lobbying in Maryland for gay marriage. And did you know that the Koch brothers are also pro-gay marriage? So there you have it: The nexus of right-wing evil all in favor of gay marriage. So what’s the chance gay marriage is a right-wing trap that will lead to higher profits for oil companies and more baby seals being clubbed? 99.9%.
* Mexico put up a billboard at their U.S. border saying no more weapons — a jab at America. I’m just surprised the Mexican government functioned long to enough to erect a billboard.
* Wisdom of the Day from Dan Cronin:
Sure, angels can fly, but don’t forget, they live in constant fear of scalpers who want to turn their hair into pasta.
* Here’s another article to file under “Why again are they called ‘progressives’?” It’s a fearful left-wing article about home schooling. Basically the conclusion is that everyone needs to stick to the current school system because that’s how we’ve been doing things and it shouldn’t be questioned and though it’s not great we need to subject our kids to it anyway and just hope eventually it will get better. It’s about as mindlessly dogmatic to an old system as you’ll ever see. As I’ve said, whatever the left accuses us of, that’s what they’re doing — even when they accuse us of being mindlessly conservative.

“He didn’t speak French, and spoke in German, addressing an imaginary audience.”
Well, heck, I do that all the time.
Let’s put up a sign on the border telling Mexico we don’t want anymore people, how about that? I’ll chip in a sawbuck.
Maybe we should put up a big high-security fence or something to stop guns from going into Mexico.
“Here’s another article to file under “Why again are they called ‘progressives’?” It’s a fearful left-wing article about home schooling.” And, here’s a quote: “Some families implement this vision on their own, while others join cooperatives of like-minded, super-involved parents.”
Because, to a liberal there’s nothing more frightening than parents who are involved in their own children’s education.
I was just thinking, “How stupid do they think they are.” then I realized, “Wait, the majority of the people did vote for that clown!”
Frank,
You’re just not doing your math right. In Government, a “cut” is a reduction in the increase, not an actual cut, so reducing spending by half is when they spend half the money they were going to…So instead of overspending $2.6 trillion dollars, they’re going to only overspend $1.3 trillion – HALF!
I’m actually surprised they only claim half…they could have just as easily claimed that instead of running up $13 trillion it was only going to be $1.3 trillion and that’s a ten-fold reduction!
Hitler impregnated a 16 year-old… well go figure: even in WWI Hitler had questionable moral values. Now who would have figured?
Obama’s prolly thinking he can roll his pledges over for another term. This could be crazy-smart because Republicans seem to be running on themes and issues from some bygone days. But who can blame them? They’ve got no issues to run against:
– Solyndra/LightSquared/Ener 1/Beacon Power Obama capitalism
– $200,000 Chevy Volts
– Fast and Furious deaths
– Radical reductions in military forces
– Massive shuttering of coal plants (under my plan rates will skyrocket)
– Perpetual ban offshore oil drilling
– Rejection of oil from Canada
– Gas prices that have gone from $1.75 to $4.00
– Oil exploration loans to Brazil
– Perpetual suppression of education/medical records
– 45 Unaccountable Tsars
What are the Republicans debating about, again?
How did I misremember ObamaCare?
Don’t worry Burmashave, if my memory serves me right most policial campagines don’t get their targets right until after the primaries. Big O and Hilleary ran against George Bush 4 years ago. Last man standing this time will just have to be nudged in the right direction. Shoot everytime one of the pack would surge and start hammering Big O the rest of the pack would turn on them.
Tsk. Blame Obama for a silly typo? He pledged to have the deficit.
Yes we can!
FrankJ:
Interesting summary of the news. What could be missing?
Oh yeah. I hear there is a Republican primary going on! What is going on with the two leading candidates?
Well, everyone is talking about how Mitt Romney recently said “The trees in Michigan are just the right height.” Impressive huh? About time someone pointed this out! Now, will he have the political courage to point out the trees of Ohio are way too short, and those of Wisconsin are much too high?

Everyone is also talking about a speech a few years ago by Santorum. Back in 2008 he said that “mainline Protestantism” is “in shambles, it is gone from the world of Christianity.” I must admit, I am not sure that position is going to win him a bunch of votes in the general election. What are your thoughts on this?

Hmmm. I think I am starting to understand why you do not want to talk about Republican presidential primary.
Best Regards,
Monkey Faced Liberal
P.S. FrankJ — I know you like deluding yourself, but really, it is not just a “statistical trick” — the economy is getting better. It is morning in America dude! Now quit being a nattering nabob of negativism and get on the Hope and Change train. Four more years!
I stole the part about “you should raise your daughter to be smart enough not to sleep with Hitler” for Facebook. FTW Frank!
How ’bout that….here all this time I thought Hitler was a homo.
How ’bout that…here all this time I thought i’d be moderated for using the word homo.
“Democracy is reproached with saying that the majority is always right. But progress says that the minority is always right.”
“There is no basis for democracy except in a dogma about the divine origin of man. That is a perfectly simple fact which the modern world will find out more and more to be a fact. Every other basis is a sort of sentimental confusion, full of merely verbal echoes of the older creeds. Those verbal associations are always vain for the vital purpose of constraining the tyrant.”
