We live in a culture that discourages empathy. A culture that too often tells us our principle goal in life is to be rich, thin, young, famous, safe, and entertained.
BARACK OBAMA, speech, Jul. 12, 2006
What is “safe” doing on that list of things he says we shouldn’t want “too often”?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but since he brought up “empathy” his message is “you shouldn’t feel X because other people aren’t”.
Again… what is “safe” doing on that list?
Also, is that whole list some sort of racist dog-whistle for “white”?
“Which is why I, a thin young millionaire President that spends the GDP of small countries on vacations, want you to give up your guns. Because safety is overrated and overemphasized.”
Wasn’t this known as Obama’s “YGDFT!YLTATSOTE!” speech?
Even if true, how does placing a high value on being “rich, thin, young, famous, safe, and entertained” discourage empathy? What does one have to do with the other? It’s a total non sequitur.
Exactly what “pinciple goals” does he think would encourage empathy? The goal of feeling sorry for yourself? Is that what we should aspire to, Mr. President?
Safe!? As in Boston Marathon safe?
So lets see what the occupant has for goals
Rich: the occupant has gone from a useless doper to a personal wealth of over 50 million. Goal 1 check
Thin: The occuapnt is thin, Sasquatch, no so much. Although she tells us we all have to be and she will make sure of it. Goal 2, half assed failure
Young: Good goal, unachievable. Fail
Famous: Check
Safe: From what government? Fail Terrorist? Fail
Entertained: He entertains himself lavishly. Check
Discouraging empathy: 21 million new parasites on food stamps, 11 million new democrats, and free phones. Check.

Ummmm…. Isn’t that a summation of his entire presidency?
