In the military, I picked up writing dates in the format such as 2 August 2017. I still use that method a lot.
The most sensible method to me is 2017-08-02 because it can assist in sorting stuff both alphabetically and chronologically. Yes, I have occasion to do that. Sucks to be me, huh.
So, what’s on your mind? Got something you want to share with us? A link to something you found? A joke to share? Pearls of wisdom? Now is the time, because it’s now Wednesday Night Open Thread.
Who wants to start?

Thanks for serving.
Indeed.
Since Basil gets to write these posts a while before they’re posted, I think we should be allowed to write our comments before they’re posted.
I don’t use the second hyphen, today is 17-0802 in Paulland.
Funny, I write today as 08-03-2017 myself.
Weird bicycles for a Wednesday night…………..

Ernie Pyle, a war correspondent during WWII who was a favorite of the troops, was born August 3, 1900. He died during a battle at Iejima, a small island just north of Okinawa, April 17, 1945.
I prefer the “20170803” yyyymmdd format. As Basil stated, it is the best format for sorting.
Date formats I picked up while in the Navy…
“03AUG17” ddmmmyy
“17215” yyddd
Beat me to it; we used Julian dates as part of document numbers when I was a supply clerk in the Army.
Plus time date group: 1056 03AUG17.
And the guy in the video never answered the question as why we Americans write dates “middle endian” nor did he address hyphens versus slashes. Ah, well, for what I paid for it I guess I can’t complain.
