Public Service Announcement From IMAO: Don’t Accidentally Be a Dumbass and Bring Undeclared Ammo or Guns on a Plane

US Tourists Face 12 Years in Prison for Accidentally Bringing Ammo to Caribbean Island
10Boston | April 22, 2024 | Leslie Gaydos

The U.S. State Department is warning travelers about strict new laws in Turks and Caicos Islands that carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 12 years for bringing guns or ammunition to the island.

An Oklahoma woman was reunited Tuesday with her young children after being detained for almost two weeks in Turks and Caicos Islands for allegedly violating their strict guns and ammunition law. Her husband is being held in the British Overseas Territory near the Bahamas.

Ryan and Valerie Watson, who live in Oklahoma, left for Turks and Caicos Islands on April 7 to celebrate the 40th birthdays of Ryan and two friends. When they went through security for their return flight [?] [He never unpacked his bag?], their carry-on was flagged and searched and officials found a Ziploc bag of bullets.

“They were hunting ammunition rounds that I use for whitetail deer,” said Ryan, “and I recognized them and I thought, oh man, what a bonehead mistake that I had no idea that those were in there.”

The two shared their story virtually with NBC10 Boston last week before their first court hearing. They were stuck on the island, their passports confiscated, separated from their young son and daughter.

“When I heard that, I immediately was terrified because I was like, we can’t both be in prison for 12 years. We have kids at home. And this is such an innocent mistake that we didn’t even know we weren’t– we didn’t even know it was there. So yeah, my immediate thought was our kids and them being, you know, parentless for, for that long,” Valerie said.

“Heh, heh, hyuck… I’m going on vacation to a remorseless foreign country. Why bother even thinking about what’s in my carry-on stuff?”

‘An honest mistake.’ Washington state senator arrested in Hong Kong for bringing gun on an airplane

KUOW / October 24, 2023 / 2:08 pm

Washington State Sen. Jeff Wilson was aboard a flight between San Francisco and Hong Kong when he reached into his briefcase for some gum. He found a gun instead.

Wilson is currently out on $2,500 bail after being arrested in Hong Kong for bringing a gun onto the flight and into the foreign region.

“It was an honest mistake, and I expect the situation to be resolved shortly,” Wilson said in a statement.

Wilson, a Republican from Longview, said he was unaware that the unloaded gun was in the briefcase he took with him while traveling. The firearm made it past security agents and screeners at the Portland airport, which has raised concerns. The senator said he became aware that the gun was with him during a flight between San Francisco and Hong Kong.

Boston Police Failed To Arrest ‘Serial Rapist’ for Years Despite DNA Evidence
WBUR.org | 04/23/2024 | Walter Wuthmann

It started off like countless other Uber rides in downtown Boston.

A group of friends piled into a car after hanging out at a bar. Then, they started arguing. Most of the friends got out at their hotel, and the man offered to drive the remaining rider around to “collect herself.”

But when the woman asked the driver to drop her back off at the hotel, he refused.

Instead, he took her to his apartment in Dorchester that Saturday in July 2016 and sexually assaulted her, police alleged in court records.

A DNA test identified the suspect as Alvin Campbell Jr., a burly 43-year-old with a long criminal history and a prominent relative. Campbell is the brother of Andrea Campbell, then a Boston city councilor and now the state’s attorney general.

Despite the DNA evidence, Alvin Campbell was never arrested or charged in connection with the encounter. And police never alerted the public.

Over the next two years, a WBUR investigation found, three more women shared similar stories with police about a man who assaulted them after offering them rides at Boston bars. In each case, DNA and other evidence pointed to Alvin Campbell, according to an application for a search warrant obtained by WBUR. And each time, authorities decided not to detain him or seek criminal charges.

Boston police finally arrested Campbell in early 2020 after a fifth woman reported she was raped. At that point, investigators made a horrifying discovery. They found evidence on his phone indicating he had sexually assaulted at least 10 additional women since the first incident in 2016.

‘Assaulted all over again’: Dems get bashed for making it easier to traffic minors ‘They’re mortified. They are hurt’
dailycaller.com | 4/20/2024 | Kate Anderson

Republican state Sen. Shannon Grove of California blasted her Democratic colleagues for weakening a bill that would make buying a child for sex a felony offense.

The bill, which Grove introduced in February, would have made soliciting a minor for sex a felony charge with the potential for up to four years of prison time, a fine of up to $25,000 and required those convicted to register as sex offenders. Democratic lawmakers on the Senate Public Safety Committee passed amendments to the bill Wednesday, without Grove’s approval, that dropped chances of prison time to a max of one year in jail and reduced the charges to a misdemeanor if the child was 16 or 17.

“When I was standing at that podium I was shocked at what was happening, and I said, ‘Are you forcing these amendments on me?’ And the chair said, ‘Yes.’ And the audience, with all of our survivors in the background, gasped,” Grove told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Some of them cried out. They’re mortified. They are hurt. They feel like they’ve been assaulted all over again by what happened.”

The amendments also made it so that a person could face charges or pay a $10,000 fine and “buy their way out of a crime” if the victim was under 16 years old, Grove told the DCNF.

“I’ve thought through this process and I thought through any rational reason that they could have, but I think somebody just needs to ask them why they don’t want to put people in prison for buying children,” Grove said. “My mind cannot wrap around a rational reason not to do that.”

Straight Line of the Day: What Would a French Musician Do In a Flying Car?

French musician becomes first-ever passenger inside flying car: ‘Amazing experience’
NY Post | 4/24/24 | Patrick Reilly

A flying car company made history this week by taking the world’s first car flight with a passenger in what could be the future of transportation.

Legendary French electronic musician Jean-Michel Jarre became the first to hitch such a ride, soaring twice through the Slovakian skies in KleinVision’s AirCar in front of captivated onlookers.

“One second you speak to the driver, and next, you are up there in the air. An amazing experience,” Jarre, 75, told Sky News.

Video released by the company shows the sleek, winged sportscar speeding down the runway on four wheels before suddenly, like something out of a sci-fi flick, it’s airborne, climbing into the sky. Jarre can be seen beaming in the passenger seat.

The vehicle, invented and piloted by Professor Stefan Klein transforms from an automobile to a flight-ready aircraft in just minutes.

The car runs on a 1.6 liter BMW engine — but Zajac said he hopes to run on batteries when the technology catches up.

It flies at speeds of up to 120 mph at altitudes up to 8,000 feet high, The Sun reported.

In addition to a driver’s license, those interested in operating the AirCar must also complete a specialized two-to-three month flying course, according to Sky News.

The 850-pound, two-seat car, first unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show last year, is an electrical vertical takeoff and landing vehicle (eVTOL) capable of reaching speeds of 110 miles per hour in the air and up to 35 miles per hour on the ground.

That’s nothing. I’ll bet it can break the sound barrier going into the ground.
