1. My son’s trip to Nee Mexico to go on a 9 day backpacking trip was canceled due to the forest fires there. I hear the fires are 95% contained which I’m happy about for all the people who live there but I’m bummed for my son.

   If all goes well he’ll be able to go next summer. In the meantime he’s going with that same group to Big Bend National Park which will be incredible but also stinking hot. Averaging about 105 each day, the peak season for doing what they’re doing is December, so I hear.

   • This is my neck of the woods. Yes, it’s too hot this time of year for hiking but youth can carry a person through it…that is if you have plenty of water, stay on the trails and don’t get lost and don’t dwell on the diamondback rattlesnakes and mountain lions.

     • Thanks. They’ll have 4-5 quarts of water on them (each) on all the trails. They’ll also bring their own shade to base camp. They’re still looking forward to the adventure.
