Thursday Night Open Thread

I’ve never been much of a Cat Stevens fan. Sure, some of his early stuff was okay, but I never liked anything enough to actually spend money on any of his stuff, 45s or LPs. But, if his songs came on the radio, I didn’t immediately reach for the button, either.

  1. Dolly Parton’s 9-5 came on the radio. I reached for the button but hit the button for the station it was on.
My friend and I knew as many words at it took to reach the button.
We both sang along until I hit the button, when the song continued we both realized we didn’t know any more of the song.
How we laughed. Of course, it was 79 and we were 16 so maybe we had another reason to laugh.

  2. If I remember correctly, after embracing Islam and the name change, Stevens refused to accept any of the royalty payments from his music. I think he later reversed that decision though. I was a fan, back in the 70’s.
