[High Praise! to the Gormogons]

Imagine a news story the old way and the new way. First, the old way:
“Pedrito Sanchez, an illegal alien, stands in a big box home improvement store parking lot every morning starting at 5:00am, where if he is lucky he will gain day-to-day employment from a series of pickup trucks that might pay him cash to do menial construction or scrap work.”
And now with the new AP style rules:
“Pedrito Sanchez stands in a big box home improvement store parking lot every morning starting at 5:00am, where if he is lucky he will gain day-to-day employment from a series of pickup trucks that might pay him cash to do menial construction or scrap work. Sanchez, 24, is a Guatemalan living in the United States illegally, based on the fact he dug under one of the many non-maintained fences along the Arizona-Mexican border about 22.4 miles West of New Mexico that the Obama administration paid $72.3 million to repair – the money never arrived. Local law enforcement attempted to increase enforcement of this area because of the serious collapse in security, but were pulled off that assignment by the Department of Justice under very suspicious circumstances.”
Yes, that actually does sound much better, and solves the technical problem that a person cannot be illegal, but can perform an illegal activity. Don’t you agree?
_______________

And, actual AP style:
Pedrito Sanchez cries as he talks about his family, and how hard he works for very little money. “I’m just looking for a better life,” Sanchez explains in his native Guatemalan, “however, it is very hard for me because the papers to receive benefits are very difficult to fill out.” Sanchez is among the many who struggled through difficult terrain and overcame obstacles in search of a better life. However, life as an undocumented American citizen is not the “American Dream” he’d hoped for. Pedrito is among the millions of American immigrants who must live a life hiding in the shadows; a victim of a Republican congress that continues to deny him the basic rights of citizenship. “I don’t know why they’re so hateful,” Pedrito states. “I just want to provide for my fourteen children. I promised them that someday they can go to school in America, and that the programs would feed them. It is difficult for me to tell them that there are some people who don’t want them to be here.” However, due to the efforts of Rep. Chuck Schumer and the so-called “Gang of Eight” – a courageous group of senators that even includes some high-profile Republicans who have risen above partisan bickering – there is hope for Pedrito and his children.
“So-called ‘compassionate conservatism’ is hard to recognize in the plight of Pedtiro, his wife Conchita, and his seventeen children. . . “
“Pedrito Sanchez, an “Unauthorized Pilgrim”, stands in a big box home improvement store parking lot every morning…..
Remember Harvey. Its not Illegal to be here Illegally. Hussein Obama is the living proof of that. Pedrito Sanchez is a colonist just as out ancestors were.
Actually Harvey, people can be illegal. If one is not “lawfully present” than it is the person, the body, that is illegal in the same way crack and meth are illegal.
