I remember most of that like it was yesterday. Percy, Rhodes, Rockefeller, McCloskey, Romney… I despised those guys in my youth. Yellow bellies. Turns out George Romney wasn’t as bad as I thought.
Being a refugee from Illinois (the part that doesn’t include Chicago, but did include strip mines for a while), it is sad but expected to see the lead comment from an Illinoid.
I remember President Reagan speaking at Reynolds Coliseum in ’85 or ’86; he said he was going to simplify the tax code, and I remember thinking that wasn’t going to happen. Dog gone if he didn’t. Three tax rates isn’t a flat tax, but it’s a start.
