Friday Night Open Thread

Star Trek was fun to watch back in the 60s. Oh, and in the 70s, too, because it was on reruns. Oh, and in the 80s. You get the idea. But, it was a shame it ended after 3 seasons.

That’s why I’ve enjoyed Star Trek Continues so much.

What pleases you today? Well, I don’t know that you should share everything that pleases you, but some stuff, right? Got a link you found that you think others would like? Have some thoughts about all the nonsense going on in the world? Whatever you got, now’s the time and this is the place. After all, it’s Friday Night Open Thread.

  1. I remember when Frank would collect funny jokes from Twitter and post them here. I liked that, because most funny-stuff-found-online aggregators would count invective against conservatives as “funny”, meaning I feel like someone is about to insult me whenever I go to other sites for that sort of thing.
I also remember a few months ago, when Frank asked us to comment on things we liked seeing on IMAO. I remember thinking of this then, and I remember letting that post go by with no comment from me whatsoever, because I’m a useless bloody loony.

  2. While channel-surfing, I stumbled upon an interesting thought experiment:

In the next show you watch (whether made-for-TV or for the movies), mentally replace the male lead with the horrendous-looking Harvey Weinstein.

In most cases, the persistance and pursuit of the male lead, and the submission of the female lead, will suddenly seem more than a little creepy and gross. . . that is, if you are successfully picturing Harvey Weinstein’s wealth and power replacing the male lead’s good looks and charisma.

  3. I don’t know how I’d remained unaware of these for so long, but earlier this year I found these archived podcasts of the Thrilling Adventure Hour.

It’s a variety of absolutely brilliant, hilarious sketches in the style of old time radio. I think the best of the series are “Beyond Belief” and “Sparks Nevada, Marshal on Mars.” The latter is the most serialized of the bunch. Some rather famous voices occasionally pop up, including those of Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin, of Firefly fame.

I get them from Podbay, as I don’t do iTunes. They’re posted in sequence here: http://podbay.fm/show/408691897

    You’re welcome.
