I saw a few guys in the Navy that only did minor infractions that got the boot with a “Dishonorable”, “Bad Conduct” or an “Other that Honorable” discharge.
These kinds of stories make me feel bad for the guys I served with that got into some trouble.
His attorney had the gall to whine about the tremendous stress and pressure the trial has put on the poor lad, that he will suffer the “tremendous stigma” of his dishonorable discharge for life, and that – oh, noes! – he will be unable to collect government benefits as a veteran. He should have been blindfolded in front of a wall and shot.
Our military is the most respected institution in the country, but if they keep showing a lack of self-respect, that’s likely to change.
I’m surprised the judge didn’t give him an honorable discharge. Nonetheless it was still a gross miscarriage of justice.
