Ireland Saved From Extreme Heatwaves by North Atlantic ‘Cold Blob’
RTÉ News | 1 Jun 2023| George Lee… what might not be so well known is that global warming has caused something quite remarkable to occur in the middle of the North Atlantic.
It has resulted in a huge area of cooling in the ocean to the south and east of Greenland, and off to the west of Ireland.
Since the Atlantic Ocean and what happens there is the key determinant of the weather in Ireland, there is no question that this cooling phenomenon is already having a big influence on climate change here and will continue to do so.
Many climate scientists say that the impact of this cooling patch is already protecting Ireland from the extreme summer heatwaves that have caused havoc on the continent. …
The southwest part of Ireland is further north than Calgary, Alberta, Canada, yet palm trees are a native species. Ireland has had a pretty mild climate as a result of the gulfstream. I’ve always heard that global warming would cause the Gulfstream to move further south and cause Ireland and some other European areas to get colder.
We use to have palm trees but we turned them into clubs for baby seals…you turned 16 up here and everyone got a club..now they are made of recycled water bottles..just not the same Doink sound..
