How Can We ‘Trust The Science’ When We Can’t Trust The Data?

… what happens if much of the vital data behind the climate-change threat are made up?

Turns out, quite a lot of it is. At least that’s what the Daily Sceptic, a British-based science watchdog, claims. It recently detailed the allegations made by an independent journalist showing that 103 of the 302 supposed “weather stations” that provide data for both the United Kingdom government’s and academic scientists’ climate change forecasts don’t exist or produce actual data.

That’s right. Instead of data, the government manufactures “estimates,” as journalist Ray Sanders found.

Still, that’s just the UK, right? Wrong.

If you live in the U.S., you’ve been hectored by big-government leftists for years to “trust the science.” But the U.S. government has its own problems with our temperature data.

The United States Historical Climatology Network (USHCN) was set up to provide accurate temperature numbers to policymakers, meteorologists, and scientists.

Unfortunately, as in Britain, the U.S. is shutting down many of its weather stations, making apples-to-apples data comparisons statistically impossible. The data go back 100 years.

“They (weather stations) are physically gone — but still report data — like magic,” according to Lt. Col. John Shewchuk, a certified consulting meteorologist. “NOAA fabricates temperature data for more than 30% of the 1,218 USHCN reporting stations that no longer exist.”

  1. And they also fudge the old date to make things look more dire. It’s all made up turtles all the way down. That’s why anyone who is paying attention knows that climate change is the lowest of the lows of things to worry about. Now the actions of our government to it is something to really worry about.

  2. Like when a high temperature ties a previous record for a particular day. And the previous day for that high temp was, say …. 1896. SO: when the uh, “Because SCIENCE” people say it’s friggin’ 101 degrees today & HEY! Man made global warming ‘cuz all the pollutants from cars & trucks & jets & factories & such, just ask: WHAT CAUSED IT TO BE 101 ON THIS DATE BACK IN 1896?!?!

  3. Australian meteorology officials caught fudging temperature data

Australian meteorologists have been caught changing temperature data from two crucial weather stations. Would it surprise you to hear that they were altering the numbers to show warmer temperatures?

    Daily Caller:

Agency officials admit that the problem with instruments recording low temperatures likely happened in several locations throughout Australia, but they refuse to admit to manipulating temperature readings. The BOM located missing logs in Goulburn and the Snow Mountains, both of which are in New South Wales.

Meteorologist Lance Pidgeon watched the 13 degrees Fahrenheit Goulburn recording from July 2 disappear from the bureau’s website. The temperature readings fluctuated briefly and then disappeared from the government’s website.

“The temperature dropped to minus 10 (13 degrees Fahrenheit), stayed there for some time and then it changed to minus 10.4 (14 degrees Fahrenheit) and then it disappeared,” Pidgeon said, adding that he notified scientist Jennifer Marohasy about the problem, who then brought the readings to the attention of the bureau.

The bureau would later restore the original 13 degrees Fahrenheit reading after a brief question and answer session with Marohasy.

“The bureau’s quality control system, designed to filter out spurious low or high values was set at minus 10 minimum for Goulburn which is why the record automatically adjusted,” a bureau spokeswoman told reporters Monday. BOM added that there are limits placed on how low temperatures could go in some very cold areas of the country.

  4. Temperature Adjustments in Australia
    February 22, 2015 | Euan Mearns

A comparison of raw temperature records (GHCN V2) and homogenised temperature records (adjusted records GHCN v3.1) is presented for 30 climate stations (Figure 2) within a 1000 km radius of Alice Springs, Australia. The adjusted records are subtracted from the raw records which illustrates the degree of adjustment for each station.

29 of the 30 stations have been adjusted to a greater or lesser extent. Only Farina has no adjustments.

The size of the adjustments increases back in time and are occasionally large, up to ±1.5˚C. Temperature trends are adjusted by either warming or cooling the past.

In 29 records, adjustments are near ubiquitous and are frequently exact decimal fractions, for example exactly 0.5˚C. For individual stations, it is usually very difficult to reconcile the pattern of adjustment made to any geographic or historic system. Homogenisation has also deleted at least 85 annual records that hinders comparison of the two data sets.

In Alice Springs the raw record is flat and has no sign of warming. In the adjusted record, homogenistaion has added warming by significantly cooling the past.

  5. I love how people can just completely accept that there were ice ages, but that the current climate changes must be man made. I was watching a show last night where a guy (Mark Roper) took a submarine down to look at sharks, and they just casually mention that at a few hundred feet down you can see the old coastline from the previous ice age before all the glaciers melted. They also say you can see this all over the world at the same depth. Now, we’re supposed to be worried that the oceans may rise like .01″ over the next decade? I’ll continue to feel no guilt firing up my 6.2 liter V8.

On the other hand, if Hillary dies, and her body is no longer producing heat, will her cold heart cause the next ice age?
