A Friday question

How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? Mine was spent breaking the stupid Q rules for my state and having a nice meal with various friends. Oh, an lots of alcohol. Lots and lots. So a day of rest today with some light Christmas decorating and package wrapping for me. Tomorrow, breaking some more rules with a round of golf out of state. Gotta make use of a decent day to get on the course before the snow sets in.

  1. Went to the in-laws. They’re in their 80s, but are winning to risk it to be with family, including some from out of the country. Feasted on all the traditional Thanksgiving fare. Grateful that Black Friday isn’t a thing this year. Ate pumpkin pie for breakfast, so life remains good for the moment.

Some family didn’t dare risk it to attend, as they live in NY. They have a friend who was caught slipping over the NY/PA border to go out for dinner and now has to quarantine. I have pitied our friends and family who remained in NY (we fled in the early 80s) over the years. The economic hardships on the upstate are fierce and I truly admire those who have survived.

Our kids couldn’t attend. One is out west and the other’s girlfriend works in a lab that handles Covid. I’m not particularly concerned, but some extra precaution for that is understandable, so I’m okay with their absence.

  2. Let’s see, our usual Thanksgiving Day motorcycle ride was cancelled due to heavy rain (##!@@%%$#@). Our private club cooked a huge turkey day dinner for what seemed 100 or so people floating in and out for a few hours. Sun came out around 3, we enjoyed snacks, a few beers, lots of good company and then grilled steaks for dinner. The parents have gone to their reward and I refuse to have anything to do with my weasel siblings. Whatever. Blazing sun and low 70s here in SC today. God bless America.

  3. Wally,

at a certain stage in life, (choices), it’s entropy. My boss had me over for the night and ordered a thanksgiving dinner. I slep’t in and read.
He has a room where I sleep every other day or so. (I pay for a house and rent but abhore it. So, water, electric, etc.. I would rather sleep at work)
Well, holidays, to me; are reminders.

To really love a holiday one must have a family. I don’t. Cherish it if you have it.
As a person like me grows older we become more distanced to the family traditions of thanks.
I find no thanks in it.

In fact, most holidays depress me.
    Semper Fidelis
