So say we all?
The only part I disliked…
SPOILERS
…was the beginning which had Starbuck’s husband telling Tigh he needed to kill his wife just before the opening sequence which was followed by Tigh killing his wife. That was clunky. They should have just had the scene of Tigh killing his wife before the opening sequence as the scene with Tigh and Starbuck’s husband added nothing.
Just a style critique, but it jumped out at me.
But all the space battles (and especially the in New Caprica’s atmosphere battle) sure made up for that.

so say we all…
and poor Starbuck!
Yup. What a great show. No pun intended, but the current BSG is light years ahead of the original. I see the original now and think, how cheesy can ya get?
The low altitude hyperspace jump was awesome. I like the fact that they showed the wind effects of the vacuum created by the Galactica jumping out. Great attention to detail boys! Keep it up!
Now if only someone would do a similar makeover to another favorite sci-fi story of mine, Robotech…
When they started this season as a cross between the French revolution and WWII underground, I vowed to give them 3 episodes to make it right. Am I ever glad I did. Tonight makes up for that miserable start!
All is made right – The president is back where she belongs, they’re back in space and even the corny ‘stash is gone from Adama’s face. Now Apollo just has to lose a little weight and Starbuck needs to get behind the stick of a Viper and we’re back in business.
Matthias, a little weight? he needs to lose both of the chipmunks living in his face, plus about 500 pounds of flesh off his body.
Well a litte weight as compared to the sum total of the Galactica, ok? I thought I saw Pegasus give a sigh of relief when he left.
Last night was the hightlight of the new season, so far. The battle scenes were the best since the mini-series/pilot. Its nice to see the show get its mojoe back.
I do like this BSG better than the original series, and I do like how they’ve tended to parallel the original’s storyline. For instance, the arrival, and subsequent sacrfice, of the Pegasus. Even Balthar (sp?) is now with the Cylons, just like the original. It seemed to me that there was a piece of Pegasus that fell onto New Caprica. If I remember the original series, the Pegasus is not out of the picture yet.
Yeah, and Apollo needs to hit the gym if he wants to fit into a Viper again. YIKES!
That was the first episode of the new season that makes it onto my favorite episdodes list. That inter-atmosphere FTL jump was more than enough to put it there. And the death of Ellen Tigh may have been one of the darkest things I’ve ever seen on TV.
Too bad about Maya, though. I always kinda liked her.
I wouldn’t completely buy Ellen’s death just yet. I’ll hold out the possibility that he drugged her and left her with plans to come back for her later. That would fit the plot twists they’ve used so far.
Matthias,
I dunno. He wouldn’t be crying if that were true. Also, I hear that Moore’s podcast confirms it.
I actually cheered when Pegasus came to the rescue, even though I knew it was coming. She will be missed, but what a way to go out!
Regarding Robotech: I would love to see that storyline played out on the big screen, live action, with modern CGI. Turn the first war into 3 movies, 3+ hours each. TV would be great, but so much more can be done on a movie budget.
Like Duncan I am intrigued by the parallels with the original. I would love to see the return of Count Ibli and the ship of lights.
I only wish they would sometimes use a modified version of the old John Williams score since its a great piece of music and
the music in BG2 is not really a strong point.
Also, more semi-nude scenes of Sharon.
kyle8, have you even heard the new music? it totally rocks! we have the first season soundtrack and will surely buy season 2. this music totally kicks pinkytoe.
I was glad to see Ellen get the axe. I have never liked her wheedling and manipulating and the such. The only good thing she ever did was get Tigh out of lockup to lead the resistance.
I mean, she blew Apollo’s plans in Sacrifice. He had an Idea and she plowed on in her ham-fisted, retarded way. Billy is dead because of her. Thus, I was glad to see her turned to worm food.
Ellen’s death was the only honorable way for the character to redeem herself. The atmo FTL jump has to go down as one of the most memorable scenes in Sci-Fi. I had given this season 3 episodes (after the opening fiasco) and now Im hooked again. Sadly I can see both Tigh and Starbuck taking up the bottle (a familiar place for both)and self deetructing.
does baltar get to hunt down the rest of humanity now? and if he does, will he get the sweet swivel chair that John Colicos sat in when he had his own basestar?
Hmmm.
Hey for that swivel chair I’d hunt down the rest of humanity for my Cylon overlords!
