  1. Did the shovel come with instructions written by a Clinton? ‘Cause he’s not watching what he’s doing and is about to FAIL.

But, maybe it’s just a nice pose with those rolled-up shirtsleeves. Except even Carter knew how to get the picture to look like he was really working. This guy is making Carter look good – and that’s not good.

  2. Mussolini loved to stage photos of himself with his shirtsleeves rolled up, working on some farm or public works project. It made the people think he actually cared about them, ironically when one of the main Fascist slogans was “me ne frego” (roughly, “I don’t give a f–k”). Funny how history repeats itself…

The photo might be a little more racist if the honky on the left had a shotgun.

  3. The Obama performs a demonstration to the pleebs and serfs of America the type of job which will be created, or saved, by his ‘economic recovery bill’ signed into law last Tuesday. ‘Just imagine, the President said.’ saving or creating 2 to 4 million jobs just like this one for all of Americans!’ The Obama Administration as well as the Democratic majority in Congress stated late this week, ‘Yes the world needs ditch diggers too, and as long as the American people have the opportunity to toil with a shovel, or a spade, or a pick axe and be payed a minimum wage, we won’t.’

  4. Not racist, but fictitious. I’m reasonably sure someone had to show him how to hold the “garden implement” before he posed for the photo op. I’ll bet it’s the first and only time he’s even seen a shovel, and probably the last (until the next photo op)

  5. I don’t know about racist. I do know that coming from a lower middle class background I have actually used a shovel on many an occasion and this guy has never touched one! His form is totally gay!

  6. Saying “to call a spade a spade” could apply to this situation. However, as Harvey points out, the object in question is a shovel, not a spade.

I investigated that saying further and it is definitely not racial in origin. It’s meaning is closer to “to call a thing that which it is” similar to “a rose by any other name is still a rose.”

So, the question becomes, what is Obama? After all, the French will be French. And Obama will be… a shoveler of Marxist crap Obama.

    (Oh, and good morning ussjimmycarter.)

  7. Thought the same thing as SkyWatch. He shovels two or three loads of dirt for a photo op and has to wear gloves to protect his girly-soft hands and his manicure. What a wimp.

Would it be racist if, instead of a shovel, he was working a hoe? I mean the tool, not Michelle.

  9. Actually it just may be a spade. That is what the guy behind him is using (the business end is squared off). Plus O’s glove size looks overly large. A sure way to get a blister. (Factoid: Spades very rarely do any work. Most of the time they are just standing around or leaning against something.)
