Random Thoughts

Maybe instead of OWS getting defensive when people ask for coherent demands, they should instead, you know, COME UP WITH COHERENT DEMANDS.

Napoli impresses me. He has the sort of build where if I was told he was professional athlete, I would have guessed curling.

Handing out fruit at Halloween is unconscionable. That’s something a sociopath would do.

So far the hardest thing about writing for the New York Post is their insistence that my columns have a point to them.

Try to get on with the New York Times. Writing columns with a point seems to be prohibited there.

  2. Well, one year we got so many kids we ran out of candy. Then change. Then fruit. One of the last kids–a teen really, too old for that stuff and no costume–got a can of soup. (Hey, soup is good food.) He was back the following year, thrilled to see “Soup Guy” again.

  3. I’ll let you guys in on a little secret. Once upon a time, when I ran out of candy, I started picking “trick”. The kids were dumbfounded. It turns out that they didn’t even know they were running a protection racket! Most of them didn’t even know the meaning of the words!

I think a similar thing has happened with our government. People don’t realize it is a protection racket. Pass it on.

  4. Ed, good sermons don’t have a a point; they have many, but usually three is a good number.

I grew up with a wonderful pastor; however, his sermons would sometimes go long. We dreaded when he’d say — about 40-50 minutes into the sermon — “…and my second point is…“

Try that with your congregation sometime. On second thought, I’ll do it the next time I’m in the pulpit.

Hmm…I don’t remember ever seeing a photo of Barry or the angry wookie eating fruit. Plenty of photos of them gorging on cheeseburgers, french fries, ribs, ice cream…but, no fruit.

  6. Apropos of very little, I watched the new Beavis and Butthead episode over the weekend. Says this reviewer, Mike Judge has not lost a step.

Serious fans will notice that Beavis says the heretofore forbidden word (fire!) about a hundred times during the first episode.

  7. Hey Burmashave-For the record it helps if you interpate my ramblings here with a facetious tone. I do take my job seriously. I enjoy the
anonymity to say the things that I do. Also I like 3 points but not always alliterations…they take up too much time. And in closing….

So why did they hire you? I mean really, that’s like hiring Instapundit and expecting him to not blend puppies.

I was kind of hoping that since their old headline writer had retired they’d give you that job.
I figure you could have topped “Headless Body Found in Topless Bar”.

  9. Hey Ed, I know you take your calling seriously, and I don’t take your comments here overly seriously.

I do actually fill in for our pastor when he’s away, as was the case yesterday. I like to joke about lengthy sermons even when I am the one doing the preaching; however, in truth, the length of the sermon isn’t my call.
