If you were wondering what kind of geniuses are working on gun control legislation these days, here’s a video of Rep. Diana DeGette explaining the effectiveness of a ban on new high-capacity magazines saying, “the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.”
Yes, she has no idea you can reload the magazine to a gun. This is like the level of stupid where I wonder if she could even identify a gun if shown a picture of one.
“No, ma’am; that’s a duck.”
“Well, I want that banned too if it’s high capacity.”
Why do we have a system where we round up the dumbest people in society and then give them the power to make laws that affect our every day lives? It seems like there’s some sort of flaw in that system, though I can’t really put my finger on it.
I say we bring back selective service, and one of the services you can be selected for is state or federal legislator.
To be fair, high capacity ducks are a problem in most states these days. Our founding fathers couldn’t possibly have anticipated the recent advances made in this area.
I was about to comment that I was impressed that she didn’t call them clips.

The follow-up was just as funny(?), where her spokeswoman Juliet Johnson tried to defuse the situation and clarify DeGette’s remarks by saying: “she simply misspoke in referring to ‘magazines’ when she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism.”

Life is high school, that’s why. In college, it pays to be smart; in high school, you just have to be cool, or a jock, or perhaps pretty (I don’t know about that one because there were no girls in my high school). Remember the popular kids in high school? They were all jerks, right? They are now members of Congress, governors, President of the United States, Supreme Court justices, mayor of New York, mayor of Chicago (although I doubt that either Bloomberg or Emanuel was popular in high school), CEOs of major corporations . . .
