It’s looking like even the watered down background checks gun bill isn’t going to pass, which leaves an opening for the pro-gun GOP to make their own bill. What we started with was a ban on high-capacity magazines, a ban on “assault weapons”, and background checks even in personal sales, but now the gun control bill will be that Obama signs a formal surrender on the issue and buy us all free ammo and does a silly dance for us. Some are still threatening to filibuster this bill as being too anti-gun as they really think there should be a clause in it saying that all the Senators who proposed gun control will get punched in the junk.
So what’s in your ideal “gun control” bill? I want nationally recognized conceal carry. Time to stop pretending that in one state you’re okay carrying a gun but suddenly in another state you’re dangerous. And if people are arguing that gay marriage is “inevitable”, then universal conceal carry is even more so considering we went from a handful of states with shall issue permits to over forty in the past couple decades.
And “gun owner” is now a protected class who can’t be discriminated against. Actually, he gets extra rights, like an extra vote for example.
Oh, and I want the bill to mandate that anti-gun people write us all a formal apology and promise to try to be nicer to freedom in the future. And I want them to refer to both me and my gun as “sir”.

I like what they did in the book “Molon Labe” where Wyoming passed a state law that exempted anyone who is openly carrying a firearm from paying sales tax.
A lifetime supply of pale ale and Italian sausage for me.
Forget gun control…we need pressure cooker control!
I wonder how a bill controlling the number of guns owned by the DHS would be recieved
An interesting bit of comparison between concealed carry and gay marriage – I once read something by a gay marriage advocate that expressed disgust that they were having to fight the issue “state by state.” He found the idea about changing a law dealing with licenses issued by state governments offensive and an unnecessary roadblock. Reading between the lines, it seemed like he viewed the state-by-state fight as an annoying stepping stone to being able to getting it passed nationally.
Concealed carry was an issue that was fought state-by-state. And it’s pretty much won at this point. Passing a national concealed carry at this point would serve the purpose of getting the last straggler up to speed. Passing gay marriage nationally at this point would serve the purpose of letting advocates be lazy about making a major change to society.
If their cause was so right and just, why would they not be willing to take the longer path that would lead to their issue being not only in place, but in being stronger in its place?
We’re not there yet. Don’t ever count out the ability of Republicans to screw something up…
My ideal gun control bill would recognize concealed carry everywhere in the country without the need for a license. That would include on all state and federal lands and parks, all post offices, all schools, etc.
It should also legalize the possession, sale, manufacture, and importation of any full auto guns in calibers less than 100mm. Silencers and sawed off shotguns would be legal as well. It would specifically include language authorizing the private possession of armed tanks, planes, and boats.
And while we’re at it, we’ll say that private ownership of any explosive devices is fine too, as long as the yield is less than 1kton.
the Ideal Gun Control Bill would be to make it illegal for anyone to try to control my Guns!
Any firearm, magazine, or other law enforcement implement (body armor etc.) in common use by law enforcement in a jurisdiction must be made readily available to any and all qualified persons in that jurisdiction in order to preserve the balance of power between the government and the people.
National concealed carry, all 50 states and on all domestic flights. All firearms and ammunition manufacturers exempt from taxation for 5 years to stimulate the industry and lower prices. All class II weapons legalized with no paperwork.
1 free gallon of ice cream, each week, from a reputable national brand. Blue Bell dutch chocloate for me, thank you.
Have Gun, Will Travel.
Hehe.
Pretty sure that the 2nd Amendment says everything the federal government should ever BE saying about guns and/or gun control. Skip the bill, and tell Congress that if they’re bored, there’s a spending problem they can work on.
Anyone ever do archery in Phys Ed class? How about including rifle marksmanship/firearms safety as mandatory school curriculum, could be done using air rifles to soften it up for the squishy moderates, and taught by NRA trained firearms instructors. Teach the at a young age to respect, not fear, and safely handle firearms would be a big step in the Right direction.
If you can carry concealed at a nudist camp you either have to leave or get a bigger gun.
Make big sis sell back all her ammo at a penny a round to the US people ALSO all the neat assault vehicles at about $10.00 and then putting her in jail for trying to mess with the second amendment.
CCW reciprocity and repeal of NFA.

I once had a supervisor who had the same attitude. I told him, “Fine, but I think you should know that I have a dog named Sir. He is an ugly, nasty, neutered, foul tempered s.o.b., too. Are you sure you want me to call you ‘Sir’?”
