Wednesday Night Open Thread

I enjoyed ’70s music in the ’70s. Not all of it holds up. Some of it does, though. This is one I still like.

No, that wasn’t the original. But it was the four band members who made the original. And, I think that was the last time the four performed together before Richard Wright’s death.

Anyway, what’s been on your mind? Got something you’d like to talk about? It’s Wednesday Night Open Thread, and the floor is yours.

Who wants to start?

  1. A man walked into a sports bar around 9:58 pm. He sat down next to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at the bar and stared up at the TV as the 10:00 news came on. The news crew was covering a story of a man on a ledge of a large building preparing to jump.
Alexandria looked at the man and said, “Do you think he’ll jump?”
The man says, “You know what, I bet he will.” Alexandria replied, “Well, I bet he won’t.” He placed $30 on the bar and said, “You’re on!”
Just as she placed her money on the bar, the guy did a swan dive off of the building, falling to his death. She was very upset and handed her $30 to him, saying, “Fair’s fair… Here’s your money.”
The man replied, “I can’t take your money, I saw this earlier on the 5 o’clock news and knew he would jump.”
Alexandria replies, “I did too; but I didn’t think he’d do it again.”
So the man took the money and Alexandria went back to work at the US Congress….the end.

  2. I saw Pink Floyd at Rice University Stadium. I don’t know when. Sometime in the ‘90s. It started raining late in the show. Eventually David Gilmore said “sorry everyone, we have to stop. We don’t want to get electrocuted.”

Turns out there was only one song left then the encore. Comfortably Numb was in the encore. I found out later that was the only concert they ever had to stop early because of rain.

  3. I still listen to mostly 70’s music. Can’t stand most of the modern crap, and don’t even get me started on (c)rap.

Saw the Floyd in Milwaukee for the Animals tour (exploding pig and all), then Roger Waters for the In the Flesh tour some years later, and then again at Wrigley Field in 2012 for The Wall-Live. Took my 18 year old kid to The Wall, he was totally amazed.

Yeah, I’m old. But I’ve seen most of the cool bands.
