Me Archives!

A new problem suddenly surfaced (or I finally noticed it) as I first started posting this new year. If a page on my blog is long, it doesn’t get posted in its entirety. Check out my archives (such as my In My World™) to see what I’m talking about. It just cuts off at a near random point and the right side bar isn’t made. I don’t know what has changed to make this problem occur, but, for the time being, I’ve had to severely limit the number of posts shown on the front page to ensure my right sidebar appears.
Anyone know anything of this problem? I’m thinking of upgrading MoveableType to try and fix it (I need all of my In My Worlds™ easily accessible to work on my book), but the newer versions now cost money ($100 bucks for unlimited authors). Anyone pay for the new MT and know if it’s worth it?

  1. Check your apache referrer logs for crosscheck php scripts that are double reverse looping to your html monkey templates. Once you’ve debugged the comment server variable rvb thingy, you will need to rebuild the mysql db with a wysiwyg thingymajib. That should do it.

  2. I noticed a similar thing when I started uploading old archives in typepad (which if I recall is moveable type.) The archives listed only a portion of the text, and didn’t indicate that there was more, however when I clicked the permalink the whole text was there. I did feature request on the matter, but as for a fix (other than clicking on the permalink) I don’t have one.

  3. Or, if you want to stay with MT 2.6x, you might want to consider using putting most of the longer entries in the extended section, although I can’t say if that will work for you, for sure. I haven’t run into this problem yet. I’m still using MT 2.65 myself.
I think Smash uses MT 3.x. Maybe ask him.

  4. Not sure what remedy you’ll need, but I can tell you that it’s only been within the past week or ten days that the chop occurred. (It’s not a function of the year change, in other words.) I had “In My World” loaded–the whole thing–not long ago but had to restart my computer; it hasn’t come back right since. (And no, I didn’t cause the problem. It was probably Chomps.)

  5. Is the problem still occuring?
I just looked at “In my world” and in the archives, and don’t see any problem as described.
I’m using IE 6.028 on Win2000, running at 1280X1024 screen res, just in case that helps.

  6. I use 3.14 and it rocks.
ask yourself: why do you need unlimited authors? Do you run a group-blog?
I use the “free-for-me” version, which limits me to one author, 3 weblogs. It’s sufficient for my purposes. Using the “future posts” feature, you can cover yourself whenever you’re away.
I was a bit put-off by the licensing when it was first announced, but it’s already paid dividends in the fact that they’ve upgraded MT more in between 3.0 & now and much quicker than they did between 2.6 & 3.0. Also, they’ve been able to hire both Anil Dash & Jay Allen… which greatly adds to the development.
MT is going places and the first step was 3.x… it’s a great CMOS and you should probably take a peek at it.
