Links of the Day

Busy busy busy…
Anyhoo, here are some links!
Meryl Yourish doesn’t seem to like Quentin Tarantino, but I don’t care how good her arguments are because Kill Bill is going to have samurai sword fights and lots of them. Hooray!
Fritz has a topical caption contest.
I don’t get to listen to Rush that often anymore, but I really enjoyed his show. Now there is this ESPN debacle plus the allegations of illegal abuse of painkillers. I hope things turn out well for him, but it doesn’t look good so far. John Hawkins is all over it.
Blackfive has his Shirley Temple awards.
At Press Think there is a critque of Front Line Voices, with special attention to the introduction. What do you think?

  1. I also posted this at PressThink:
Yep, he’s right. Nuke the first paragraph. It does sound a little too like we’re “media victims.” Except I will truly miss the word tyrant.
The term “reality check” is excellent for this project. Remember that for your talking points, Frank.
I can vouch for this statement completely: From what I can see, Front Lines was built by free citizens, in full command of their public senses– not by Prisoners of Rather. Yes!
Thank you Jay Rosen, whoever you are, for taking the time and effort to write such a careful review. You’re a sharp analyst and a thoughtful cheerleader.

I agree with dropping the first paragraph, and changing “full story” to “fuller story.”
I also noted that he claims the site is ONLY for military folk to contribute to, but I thought it was for anyone who’s been there this time around, including civilian contractors. Reading your introduction, it does sound like you only accept stuff from servicemembers. You might want to adjust that as well.

  3. NO LOVE FOR TARANTINO

My movie geek roundup had one glaring omission. I didn’t say a word about the upcoming Quentin Tarantino movie, Kill Bill Volume 1, the first of a two-part assassin/revenge/kung fu movie aimed at restoring Tarantino and Uma Thurman to their…

  4. The Press Think critique had some good points, but I liked the first paragraph, and the message it conveys.
One thing you could consider is swapping the first and second paragraphs, making any suggested changes you deem necessary.
The wonderful thing about feedback is you can use it, consider it, or just throw it away. =)
