Friends,
If there’s one aspect of my life I don’t discuss, its my taste in music.
I love country music. I love that it has lyrics. That people play real instruments. And that you can go hours without hearing the phrase “Baby baby. Ooooh yeah”
That has now come to an end. KZLA, my favorite radio station has gone Pop.
At this point in time I am investigating satellite radio and HD radio.
I’d like any feedback on your experiences with XM or Serius.
Thank you.

I’ve had my XM Radio for 2+ years, and
I. LOVE. IT!!!!!
XM rules!

Please accept my condolences on this very solemn and distressing occasion.
My favorite radio station, without any indication whatsoever, suddenly turned oldies and fired its staff. I found a similar station soon after, and just recently discovered a country music station which I enjoy tremendously.
I am sure you can find something to replace your old favorite via XM Radio.
I can truly feel your pain RWD. I went home to discover that THE radio station of my youth had gone from classic rock to something called “the wave” and was playing crap.
Good luck with the sattelite radio.
XM with a Pioneer Inno receiver. Combines XM Satellite radio with an MP3 player. Can’t beat it..
XM Rules !!!
And you get Opie and Anthony too !!!
Good luck bro’
I don’t have any experience with satellite radio, but my experience w/pop music has lead me to the conclusion that it sucks ass.
Bigtime.
Howard Stern is on Sirius, so personally, I would go w/XM, just to burn Sirius.
You have my condolences and best wishes.
I just recently bought Sirius, and it was worth every penny. I’ll never go back to regular radio again!
Go with XM. I’ve had it for almost two years and I couldn’t live without it. I once forgot my receiver at home and was forced to listen to shudders FM. I almost drove my car into a light pole just listening to the damned commercials.
I just checked the channel listings and there are seven channels devoted to country. Get it. It’s very worth it.
Also, if you dig real music with real words and real instruments, check into indie rock (XM Channel 43: XMU).
I love my XM. Since you like c&w I must tell you – if you get divorced she is still your sister and/or cousin or both.
hey im new here and u look seXy will u go out with me?
Bah! Country music causes dain bramage.
you look seXy will u go out with me please
XM — most definitely, if only for Outlaw America and Willie’s Place. Country music from the ’60’s to today’s music, songs from artists that commercial radio won’t play anymore who are still recording. And NO F***** commercials (except on Nashville, which Clear Channel programs).
Oh, and definitely get an Inno!
There was a radio station around here that used to play awesome rock/punk all the time. Then they went mainstream and now all they play is Top 40. It’s OK, I guess, except that we already have a Top 40 station… and I miss my rock music.
My stereo in my car is XM ready, but I’m too poor for it.
I’ve got my first XM in 2003 and now I have three receivers (my truck, the wife’s truck and a boom-box type). If you are a baseball fan, it’s the only way to go-every game from Spring training to the World Series. I would guess the music is similar to Sirius, but the baseball puts it over the top. And Fox News.
If old country or those true to that sound is what you are looking for, try online station Carolina Country Music. I know the DJ’s personally and they keep it country all day and night while you work on your blog catch them at http://www.carolinacountryradio dot com
I know your pain. I bought a new Jeep about a year and a half ago, and it came with a free one-year subscription to Sirius. I consider the Sirius radio worth the price of the entire Jeep. I can’t live without it and the really nice thing is that I have the same stations no matter where I go across the country.
Oh, yeah – I play in a country band that specializes in Outlaw country – Waylon, Willie and Johnny, so I won’t say anything bad about Country listeners, even if all I listen to is the Blues – well, most of the time, anyway.
Good luck. Go Sirius and you’ll never regret it. And I think they just bought XM.
Oh, yeah, if you go to http://www.sirius.com you can listen to them free over the internet for a three day trial period. Channel 63 is the Outlaw Country channel.
Good luck!
Senator Hagel says Iran has more power and influence in Iraq than we do. Bush empowered Iran with the Iraq War. How sucky is that? Why do you idiots continue to support this administration? The Bush administration is incapable of leadership. They are just sell outs to the multinational corporations. All they do is try to make us afraid of things like water bottles. But we will not be afraid of water bottles! We will stand up against them and vote them away!! We will not cower in the face of ludicrous threats! We will bring our water bottles on the plane!!! HOORAY!!!!
P.S. Those of you who actually want to get rid of airplane ride conveniences like liquids and gels because you are terrified of the stupid terrorists are some of the biggest f***ing cowards this world has ever seen. That’s like just standing there and letting the terrorists punch you in your dumb monkey faces. You have to stand up for yourselves and stop being such cowards. Denounce the nonsense and the non-terrorist-killing Bush administration. Call them out for being the phonies they are.
According to the KZLA website, you can still get them if you have HD radio.

We had a channel here in the cities that use to play old style 60’s and early 70’s. They changed to 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and now play…shudder…disco!!! I sent them and email to let them know that disco sucked in the 70’s and it sucks even more now…then I bought a new 2006 VW Passat with XM. Will NEVER EVER go back to regular radio!!! Only complaint is that my damn radio keeps losing it’s connection to XM but that is a hardware malfunction that the dealer will fix!!!
Now I am confused, is the idgit troll trying to say that taking away Ducky’s country music station is a bushhitlerian plot to scare us into submission?
Sheesh is it so much to ask that the trolls at least TRY to connect their stupid crap to SOMETHING in the post?
When my favorite classic rock station to country music. They announced they would be the All Macarena and then played the macarena for 24 solid hours.
A publicity stunt to be sure but they sure gave me a way to annoy coworkers for part of two work days.
I once tried listening to pop at work, but it caused me to murder a coworker.
Luckily there are a few country stations to choose from where I am since, technically, Florida is in the South.
I really like my XM radio. My favorite channel is 151 (“Laugh USA”).
Frank J.: Florida may be physically located in the South, but is not considered a southern state due to the amount of yankees that live there.
Country music still has plenty of “Baby Baby Ooooh yea’s” in it…..the difference is the singer isn’t talking about his girlfriend, or the hottie he met at a club….he’s talking about his sister. 🙂 🙂 🙂
I’ve got Sirius in my car and I love it….now if only I could find a way to lock Country Stations out so I don’ thave to scan past them looking for real music.
I don’t have satellite radio yet, but I would definitely recommend XM for two reasons. One, Howard Stern is on Sirius, and two, XM is also a traffic and weather relay, so that pilots can use it in aircraft instead of radar, and drivers will eventually be able to get live traffic on their navigation systems. This is very consumer-oriented and forward thinking, so XM deserves the support.
There is some lock-in as to whether your preferred car company has XM or Sirius built-in. The way around that on a budget is to get an Awia head unit for your car that has an input jack. This will let you use XM, Sirius, or your iPod/other MP3 player without resorting to a crappy FM transmitter system. Also, if you have a portable, you can connect it there or in the house without paying a second (albeit smaller) fee for a second XM radio. Also, if you have XM you can log into the web and listen to all the stations at work with your XM password. I don’t know if Sirius does that.
as music goes there’s probably not much difference between the two. check out the sports packages and talk radio stuff if that’s an issue for you otherwise I don’t think it matters.
I’ve had XM for a few years now and like it a lot.
RWD, I actually do feel your pain.On my way to work Brad Paisley all was good. I leave work and my radio started playing some hip hop crap. Just in time for the 405 traffic–
It made me a sad panda.
My respect for RightWingDuck and FrankJ have now bottomed out, upon learning that they listen to country music. I wouldn’t even call it music. Just some boozer going off about how he lost his job, his wife left him, taking the dog. BLECH!
Elvenbane,
I listen to every music genre, you elitist.
Anyone who doesn’t like Johnny Cash isn’t a real man.
Really, the only difference between the two is:
NASCAR? – XM
NFL? – Sirius
Everything else is the same, basically. I just listen to AM so I don’t have to bother with crap. You gotta admit, no matter what kind of music you listen to, some of it is crap.
I hate crap.
RWD,
I’ve had XM on a free trial for the last two months. Can’t really speak for it’s country music quality (though they do have 7 channels dedicated to it), as I don’t care for Country Music. I enjoy the comedy channels, the news channels are great, and they have any news channel you could possibly want to listen too. The traffic update channel for my city has saved me hours of traffic backups on the freeways in the short time I’ve had the service, in that alone it is worth paying for.
As for the “Country isn’t music” crowd. I hate country, but I beg to differ. It takes more talent to be a country star than it does to be a carbon copy ‘gangsta’ crap ‘singer’ (I use the term incorrectly here, there’s no singing in rap, or music for that matter), or a mass produced so-called pop star.
Elvenbane…
You had RESPECT for US???
I just lost all respect for you.
Keep the feedback coming. All of this is helpful.
Johnny Cash is the only performer to be in all 3 Halls of Fame at once: Rock,Country & Songwriters.
Rock’n’roll combined elements of country & blues & today’s country musicians grew up on R’n’R.
Interestingly, XM is actually running ads about the recent demise of local country music stations, and how we XMers should tell our friends about XM’s 8(6?) channels of country music.
So, as the good consumer-bot that I am, I bow to my XM overlords and usher you into the satelite radio age.
DISCLAIMER: I personally think country music sucks a** when it is not accompanied by video of Shania Twain. Oddly enough, my receiver spends most of the time now tuned to the Canadian Comedy channel…
Uh, if you were listening to “country” music, then you were already listening to a pop station. Sounds like they just formalized it. See this site.
RWD, I didn’t say how high of respect I had, just that it bottomed out. 🙂
Frank, Mr. Cash is not in the same category as country music. Radio wouldn’t even play some of his later stuff. I am not an elitist, I just choose to keep my braincells by not listening to certain crap. (Country and Rap. I hate Rap just as much.)
You could try 95.1 KFRG. Don’t know if they go all the way out to you, though – it’s in San Bernardino (though they claim that they have the highest transmitter or whatever now, since the old one was destroyed in the Olds Fire).
However, I suggest you go with good music, like on 95.5 :p
i have put by thought’s on rick dees and it sucks that i love county music and Kzla.com is Now Steaming the country On There site and It Suck’s In Is Not a Consistant Stream In Have Sent A message To Kfrog.com if they are going to take over the market for Los Angeles and Orange County California Have Not Heard Back Yet Rick Dees And Emmis Killed Country Radio in Los Angeles
