Anyone else watching Heroes? After I saw the first episode, I was like “Meh”, but found enough interesting parts to want to see where it was going. But it’s been getting better each episode to the point it’s my most anticipated show each week (other than BSG). I wonder how much longer they can keep up the momentum; I have no idea where it’s going, but it seems like it’s going somewhere (unlike Lost).

BTW, what do you think Nikki’s power is? So far, it just seems like multiple personality disorder, which isn’t really a super power. I assume there is more to it, and am interested to see what that is.
Also, I’m thinking her son is going to be important…

this show is getting crazy. i’m just hating commercial breaks. and on bsg…why did they have to drop the pegasus???
Uh… why did they make Starbuck a woman? I’m sure that Dirk “Faceman” Benedict wasn’t happy that his original character got a sex-change in the remake.
As for most anticipated show – are you watching The Unit, Frnak? That’s my #1 right now. Awesome.
So is Heroes better than Jericho? I watched half of the first episode of Jericho and was bored silly. this despite Skeet Ulrich, who has the coolest name in Hollyweird. Trite dialogue and fairly implausible reactions of the characters, it was pretty much a letdown from the get-go. I wanted to like, I really did.
I like TV, but not enough to watch it regularly. I need Tivo, like yesterday. I’m always busy doing other things, like reading “Flags of Our Fathers” which I promised myself to do before I saw the movie (gotta hurry!). Great book BTW. Got weepy twice already and I’m on page 107. Marines, man! Ooo-rah!
Anyway, TV is a luxury I rarely get to enjoy.
Heroes is by far the best show on network TV that’s not football, and Hiro is the best character. I think the show’s picking up steam; my son came home from school today and mentioned that everyone was walking around saying “Save the cheerleader, save the world”.
As your title suggests, Hiro is awesome. But I’m enjoying the other Heroes as well, especially Ali Larter, who possesses the amazing power of clothes removal. Also the cheerleader, the cop, and the cop’s FBI lady friend. I haven’t missed one yet!
Yeah, I’m hooked too, and I like Hiro from the beginning because he was such a nerd and he’s so childlike in his belief.
However, I also liked the darker Future Hiro who showed up in the subway. I think the guy playing him is doing a great job, because you could sense a bit of melancholy from someone for whom the “adventure” has turned into something much more serious.
I also think that they have established that “saving the cheerleader” is only the first danger they are facing. Here’s a show with the potential to go on for years.
My favorite character is shaping up to be Peter, though. Unlike the others, who essentially know what their power is, Peter is just beginning to learn that he’s some kind of leech.
As someone who does not regularly watch TV, Heroes is the exception. It is available not only on the network, but Monday evenings on the Sci Fi plays the previous weeks episode, so if you miss one…
I cahn’t believe you right-wing idealogues have so much time to waste on television. If you are going to watch television, chan’t you watch something educational? Why not try the WEst Wing or Commander in Chief? Well, carry on, or whatever it is you do in your trailer pahks. Did I mention I was in Viet Nam?

Frank J – I hope you aren’t “crushed” when you find out that these X-Men knock-offs are being drawn together to stop the VRWC from destroying the world. The pace of the show reminds me so much of “Surface” that I want to laugh every time I see a cheerleader.
As for BSG, maybe they can move beyond the whole “Women are smart and strong/men are weak and stupid” and try to have a plot that makes sense. The only literary device the writers seem to be familiar with is deus ex machina. The biggest twist in the series so far was when the real mother of Starbuck’s child showed up. Starbuck – sexy, smart, strong, swears/drinks like a sailor and yet she secretly wants to be a mommy…but she can’t because the Cylons ate her ovaries with fava beans and a nice Chianti…aaaaaaawe, ain’t she stereotypically-Hollywood-cute? Boring!
we’ll probably find out that Nikki doesn’t have a superpower and that her son is the real mutant. i mean superhero.
As a superhero connoisseur, I’ve read some fantastic superhero drama, and seen some great movies (The Incredibles, anyone?).
This show, however, seemed to me like a bunch of bad superhero cliches thrown together sloppily and kept me bored. Which, Frank J, is good for you because I keep visiting your blog. Congratulations, you’re more interesting than NBC’s Heroes.
Well, Its not a superhero show. Its a Serial Drama, that happens to have people with superhuman powers.
BIG difference.
But I do love the show. Especially Hiro. I know if I actually had superpowers, I’d end up being at least as geeky as him.

I wasn’t hooked until week 3. I kept giving it time to get good. I love Hiro; he cracks me up!

I suspect that Nikki is a split personality, which is how she deals with her abilities-they are too strong. She suppresses the personality capable of being violent because she cannot deal with that kind of power on a day-to-day basis without giving in to the desire to crush something-much like Bolton’s ‘stache.
I would like to have a super power based on Tourette’s Syndrome. Plus, extra Mojoe.
“Heroes” RAWKS! I consider the reactions of the characters to be very genuine – especially since all of them have COMPLETELY different reactions.
-Hiro is an idealistic, naive nerd. Like someone pointed out, he becomes much more somber, but also more confident, later.
-Isaac is a drug-addicted artist. When he realizes he can paint the future, he tries to clear his mind enough to figure out what to do.
-Niki is single mom, doing what she can, trying to be good. I agree with the contention that she can’t accept the power she has to do violence, and so has developed a split-personality to handle it. (She definitely has super strength – the previews for next week show her throwing DL into a wall.)
-Claire is a popular cheerleader, who reacts to her power by not wanting anyone to know – I think she fears the title of, “freak.” She doesn’t want to lose her popularity, and she keeps going like nothing has changed.
-Nathan is matter-of-fact – he is running for Congress, and that is all he wants. He ignores his powers until he needs them. Everything he has is for the purposes of getting elected.
-Matt first uses his powers to save a little girl, but then uses them like a parlor trick, trying to help his wife and him get back together. They are an annoyance to him, a little bit.
-DL can phase through walls, but we haven’t seem him but briefly. He escaped custody, presumably by phasing through his handcuffs. (“He did a Houdini on us.”)
-Peter, my favorite, since he recognized first the possibility of “super-powers”, without actually experiencing anything. I agree that he is a leech – he can fly with Nathan (his brother), he can paint the future with Isaac, and he can stop time with Hiro. Can he regenerate with Clair, or kick butt with Nicki? Time will tell…
I love this show. This is only the second show in my life that I am consistently upset when the show is over (the other one was “Invasion”, last year.) And I am 33 years old!

For Paleomedic: if you have a decent speed connection, you can watch on-line on NBC’s website. It’s like the poor person’s Tivo! It does have some commercial breaks but you can get through the full episode in about 45 minutes.
I’m really liking Heroes. I wasn’t going to watch it at first, but decided to take a chance. I’m loving it. The father is kinda creep though. I’m wondering how that is going to develop, especially with his daughter being one of “Them”.
I haven’t decided on the Dad yet (imdb lists his character as “Horn-rimmed glasses.) As is often the case, I think the writers are trying to play a plot twist on us, making the dad turn out to be not the bad guy we think he is.
It’s clear that the Dad is involved in something, but is he necessarily a bad guy? I don’t know. He did have the memory of the quarterback wiped.
Well, the dad is a lot more merciful than I was expecting. I really didn’t expect the QB to have a pulse by the time the dad left the hospital room.
A real bad guy would have killed him without a second thought.
