Desperation

The point of these videos is to get the politician to say something controversial, and in that these kids failed:

(hat tip Hot Air which has more details)

Little odd. I mean, I’d get violent if someone accused me of supporting the Obama agenda, but it seems a bit out of place with a Democrat Representative. Plus, I think Etheridge would come off as more impressive if he used a Batman voice. “WHO ARE YOU?!!!”

Anyway, if a Democrat has touched you inappropriately, make sure to tell an adult.

And have you seen Harry Reid’s new campaign slogan: “No one can do better.” Isn’t that depressing if true?

“Your Senator is a cranky, doddering old man, and it only goes downhill from there.” Maybe the new Democrat strategy is to assault and depress everyone into submission.

  1. Neal Boortz got this figured out. Etheridge’s website says he accessable to all North Carolinians. The videogrppher must have been from another statte.

SOMEBODY has grounds for an assault charge, me thinks.

Funny hat off. This is just one example of the continuing contempt shown by the democrats for the citizens of this country. How dare a mere taxpayer ask something of a representitive? There has been an increasing amount of this sort of thing going lately.

  2. So even the marxists can’t admit to supporting the pos one’s agenda publically.

Marxist: It is better to assult a college student and let them know who is in control thatn it is to admit to hating America.

Student: But its a simple question, do you support marxism?

Marxist: give me that arm boy! I want to break it for questioning your superior!

Student: But I don’t want to be raped

Marxist: We know what is good for you!

  3. Presumably this jerk will go back to NC to campaign this year. I’d love to see him followed around by republicans and tea partiers shouting “Who are you?” everywhere he dares to show his face.

  4. innominatus – I think the kid’s reaction is absolutely perfect.

He is clearly a small, skinny, harmless, young man. His non-resistance and lack of anger just makes Etheridge look even worse. It makes Etheridge look like the kind of guy who beats kittens and puppies for fun.

  5. …and like every video on YouTube that embarrasses a democrat, the view counter is magically “stuck” at 328 views, despite there being more than a 1,000 comments alone.

…nothing to see hear, please move along, Bush sucks…

  6. I was watching this with a friend who sees this video differently than “evil democrat beating up on poor little college students” and after talking to her, I’m inclined to agree.

Is Rep. Etheridge correct that he has a right to know who is asking him questions? (either way, it seems polite) Are these kids part of his constituency? Further, since the students were obviously wanting to be kept out of the video, did Etheridge have a right to keep these kids in the video so they would also be identifiable? After talking with her, I’m not sure that Rep. Etheridge was totally in the wrong.

Obviously, he should know better than to put hands on anyone & should have just walked away but did he have the legal right to demand to know who he was talking to and where they were coming from? These kids were saying they were just doing a project but they wouldn’t give names or where they were coming from.
Does Rep. Etheridge have a record of outrageous behavior or could this be a simple one-off from a man having a bad day?

[These are good questions to ask Etheridge — though he might assault you. -Ed.]

  7. Slveryder says:
…I’m not sure that Rep. Etheridge was totally in the wrong.

Sorry – but he was totally wrong. Being annoyed by some kid asking questions does not give anyone, congressman or otherwise, any right to man-handle him or take his property. If he didn’t want to answer because the kid didn’t identify himself then he should not have answered and just kept walking.

  8. “Is Rep. Etheridge correct that he has a right to know who is asking him questions?”

No. He has a right to answer the question or not answer the question. But there is no “right” to have someone who asks you a question to be identified. And the asker had every right to ask it: it’s called the First Amendment.

  9. If the congressman had been legit he would have said “Iam congressman fill-in-the-blank from North Carolina? Who are arer and who are you wih? I am delighted to answer your question” or something along these lines. If he was legit.

On the liberal blogs this is all a conspiracy by the evil bushcheneyhaliburtonfoxnewschristianbpteapartiers to get another great wonderful innocent democrat in trouble. It’s Bush’s fault. I thought it was Cheney or Rumsfeld in the secret underground world control bunker.

  10. I see a punk kid (Just tell the nice old Southern man who you are, you little punk!) and I see an angry old Democrat congressman. The punk kid gets his camera thrown around, the Democrat looks bad.

    We’ll call it a draw.

  11. @DamnCat-sorry, unfortunate phrasing there. I agree that he had no right to grab anyone and was totally in the wrong there. Walking away was clearly the only correct answer.

But I do find it questionable that those kids were so unwilling to be in their own video and that the video is so obviously spliced. A full version of both videos might make it seem less like they were harassing a man on a public street who then overreacted and got physical.

  12. I agree that people need to man up, and this wasn’t really an “assault”.

However, we also must look at it this way: If the congressman had asked the student the same question, and the student had responded in the same way that the congressman did, is there any doubt that the student would presently be under arrest and facing – at the very least – assault charges. Goodbye congressman.

  13. The one thing that is being overlooked here. Beside the fact that the democrat meets democrat criteria by being mentally ill. This clown was asked a simple question by what appears to be a concerned citizen. Now even if the tape is spliced, the democrat is obviously manhandling the boy (must think he is an intern), which is wrong. This mentally ill freakshow should realize, even if he represents a district in N.C., his votes have national repercussions and the people of N.C., have the right to know if they elected a marxists or just a mentally ill child beater.

Obvoiusly, the student’s conservative rhetoric caused the violence in this video.

Well, the Southern Poverty Law Center has been warning us for years of this…FINALLY! The prophecies come true. And might I say, it’s about damn time. Thought I’d be on Social Security…wait… die from rationed medical services…never live to see it.

  15. And have you seen Harry Reid’s new campaign slogan: “No one can do better.” Isn’t that depressing if true?

Actually, it’s truth in advertising. The country would be better off if he was voted out and no one was elected to his seat.

  16. So David Weigel sees the video, edits it to just the Thug grabbing the kid by the back of the neck and pulling him towards him. Then he calls the act a hug. At first, I thought Weigel was a moron, but then I thought about where the Thug put his hand and how he wall pulling. I figured it out. Weigel, being a DC insider type, recognized the action of the representative trying to get a mouth hug (aka Lewinski). After all, that’s apparently the only thing students do around Congressmen in DC, and Weigel probably knows better than anyone else. So no, when he says hug, he doesn’t mean an old bear hug squeeze. I’d probably figured that out sooner if I wasn’t the type that thought “Tea Party” referred to the revolt in Boston rather than some sexual act performed among Democrats.

  17. I hope the kid has a great great grandmother who’s negroblackAfricanAmerican so he can say it was not only an assault but a vicious hate crime as well. This legally is not an assault, it’s assault AND battery (there’s a difference). A normal person would do time for this. When Scott Brown was running, one of Marsha Jokelys thugs knocked a reporter on his a$$, on tape and nothing happened to him either. I really hope that kid files charges but he’s probably already been threatened so I’m not holding my breath.

  18. The only thing that would have made this better is if the young person this doddering fool was man handling was a young woman, a minority woman to be exact. I’m telling you the closer we get to the election, the more inroads the tea party makes the more demoncrats are going to turn on each other and unfortunately us.

    Should be quite the show.

  19. But I do find it questionable that those kids were so unwilling to be in their own video

They were doing a class project; there is kind of a big difference between being willing to appear in polite interview before a couple dozen of your peers in order to get a good grade and wanting to appear before millions of people on youtube in the midsts of a major political fallout. Would *you* want Kos Kidz calling for your blood because they thing you were part of a Rovian conspiracy to bring down another high-ranking democrat?

and that the video is so obviously spliced. A full version of both videos might make it seem less like they were harassing a man on a public street who then overreacted and got physical.

They were showing the assault, not submitting court evidence. I wish more youtube videos were properly edited. Unless they punched the guy out-of-frame, I don’t see what could possibly mitigate the inappropriateness of his reaction, and they were very polite and non-physical for what has to be 95% of the event: should we assume they were totally schizophrenic in the other 5%?
