Harvey, after listening to a few of these, I must commend you for your hard work. These things are brilliant. How comes no one told us relative newbies SarahK could sing like that?
Hey, on the July 4th episode, I *told* you her Star-Spangled Banner was very pretty.
Frankly, it’s one of the best versions I’ve ever heard. Most singers forget that the Anthem should be about the song, NOT the singer’s vocal talents.
It should be done with reverence, not with wild flourishes.
Jimi Hendrix excepted, of course.
I’ve tried listening to the podcasts online, and it just takes too long with my dial-up modem.
If I gave in and bought an i-pod, would it download faster, or am I still bound by the limits of my obsolete technology?
You don’t need an mp3 player. It’s just an audio file.
Right-click on the “download” link, and choose “Save Link As”
It’s at least a 10 meg file, so it’ll probably take an hour or so to download on dialup, but at least you can go do something else while you’re waiting.
After that, fire it up in Windows Media Player, and you’re good to go.
Of course, depending on your system, these instructions may be completely useless to you, so I offer no guarantees or refunds.
Still, drop another comment if you’re having trouble & I’ll see what I can do.
4of7, if your library offers computer access to the public (most do and for free) you could quickly download the podcasts and any other files you want to peruse at leisure. A portable storage device would also let you save them without hogging space on your computer. I think many libraries even have wi-fi which will let you bypass the time limits if you have a laptop. My local branch is an easy walk away and comes in handy when my cable is out or I am having problems with my computer.
And you can easily pick up a 1 or 2 GB USB flash drive for about $10 off the rack at WalMart or any store with an electronics department.
Thanks for the tips!
