Neil Armstrong on the moon

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds – and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared
And swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there
I’ve chased the shouting wind along and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace,
Where never lark, or even eagle, flew;
And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

  1. I remember running all the way home from school so we did not miss the fist steps on the moon. Neil Armstrong was the embodiment of the American spirit. Rest in peace. Our nation has lost one of the best.

  2. Didn’t Ronald Reagan quote some of that poem when the Challenger exploded in 1986? If I remember correctly he said “they slipped the surely bonds of earth and touched the face of God” in his speech from his office.

  3. It’s alarming how many people on the twitters can’t believe he died right after they took away all his Tour de France wins and that he was way too young.

    Bacon to you Mr. Armstrong who walked on the Moon without any illegal performance enhancing drugs.
