Taking this completely out of context, Crabby Old Bat [High Praise!] left a comment reading in part:
on Hogan’s Heroes, Col. Klink was usually shown unenthusiastically responding to “Heil Hitler!” with a monotone, muttered, limp-wristed, dismissive wave of a “Heil . . . Hitler” of his own.
Now here in America, we tend to use hand gestures that are more patriotic and less genocidal, like military hand salutes and placing your hand over your heart.
Which made me wonder… what would be the appropriate hand gesture to make while saying “Bacon to you!” (as you thoughtful and supportive Moon Nukers are wont to do to one another)?
Offhand I’m thinking hand held up in front of you, with thumb and forefinger pressed firmly together as if you were hold a strip of crisp bacon between the digits. Sorta like this:

However, I’m still open to suggestions. Fire away.

UPDATE: In the comments, Dohtimes [High Praise!] suggests using ~ as shorthand for “bacon”. ~ to him for the idea.

Instead of hand over the heart, maybe hand over the belly?
I extra-like it because I’m pretty sure that that gesture means something very rude in a bunch of other countries
~~~~~~~~~~ For the comments, maybe? Easy to do and with a number added like 10 ~~~ for that one blarg, a high compliment.
Is there a different salute for crisp bacon and tender bacon? Crsipy bacony is stiff enough to be held up for a salute, while tender bacon should probably be wound around the fingers, or possible held in a palm like a traditional salute to the flag, although that does raise the issue of possible bacon droppage, and I’m pretty sure that wasting bacon is high treason.
Looks like the Nike swoosh
Just chew it!
This is such a great idea that I thought I would share it…
I think for a physical salute, the one mentioned by Harvey works great.
But for a digital salute, ~ is perfect.
~~~~~ Dohtimes.
Also note that the bacon in the picture is held in the LEFT hand. A double insult to Muslims – pork, and food in the left hand. Muslims use only the right hand for eating, and the left hand for wiping their ass.
I’ve always used the ASL version of saying, “Bacon” as a sort of salute.
I believe it gets the point across very easily: http://www.signingsavvy.com/sign/BACON/950/1
