Straight Line of the Day: The Best Way to Thank the Troops…

Works like this: I feed you Moon Nukers a straight line, and you hit me with a punch line in the comments.

Of course, if you’re not feeling particularly funny today (and for the 12th straight time, I’m not), sincerity is fine, too.

The best way to thank the troops…

  1. As a service member, when people thank me, I tell them to thank us by excercising the freedom we pay for and defer during our service. Never give up any freedom we’ve paid for in exchange for any comfort the politicians may offer you. Educate yourselves on the facts, not the politican’s lies, and vote so that we truly get the government we deserve!

  2. …….replace the president, chase out the lobbyists, fire carrier politicians who don’t function.
…….hire people who have integrity, who are honest and who love and believe in the Constitution.
…….make sure our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines are led by people who will give them what they need to do their jobs.

  3. And I was in the mood to be funny today.

Whatever your feelings for “The Military” remember it is made of volunteers. Every person who serves has a family waiting to hear they have survived the ordeal, don’t add to their burden by expressing your animosity at their loved one.
If you must, send your concerns to congress, or to the branch secretary, or others who are in a decision-making position; soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen deserve nothing but praise, thanks, and bacon.

  4. having family in the military, what they seem to want most is a little gratitude and assurance and some resistance and abhorance toward those who would use them as pawns for their own political gain.

  5. … is to fight the battle of freedom on the homefront so that they have something worthwhile to come back to.

That wasn’t really a punchline though, so here’s a punchline:

… is to entertain them with video of Obama being thrown out of office in humiliation and January 20th being dubbed “Liberation from Obama Day”.

  6. Mrc C. I like it. Make it a regulation that anyone running for public office has to either serve in the military active or in the guard. They’d have to make it possible for older folks to serve but I know plenty of people who would have enlisted after Sep 11th and done whatever they asked, they just wanted to help.

  7. …is to take the handcuffs of off of them and let them do their G** Damned JOBS!! Americans have to realize that the military is Atticus Finch shooting the rabid dog..there are some jobs very few of us would do, but we all WANT done, and NEED done for the safety of everyone of us. Atticus Finch would not shoot a mockingbird, he was not a “baby killer”; but he knew when he had to “step up” to protect the innocent.
**Longer than just finishing the line…but it needed to be said especially on this date! !**

  8. @Lactose:

Little known fact: Get a copy of “I Want You: The Evolution of the All-Volunteer Force,” published by RAND Corporation. There’s actually a RAND staff paper in the collection that points to Robert A. Heinlein’s 1959 book “Starship Troopers” as a “must read” for the deep thinkers involved in the project! Heilein’s depiction of the Mobile Infantry recruiting effort was also considered when the Marine Corps’ manpower branch refined its recruiting approach and techniques with J. Walter Thompson, Xerox, and Learning International.

  9. I can’t believe nobody has yet suggested electing a new President/Commander-in-Chief.

The best way to thank the troops…is cold beer, lots of bacon and some sacrificial hippies for their punching pleasure.
    …and give them a new President/Commander-in-Chief.
