Citing what it calls “unhealthy” competition among students, a North Carolina school board voted to stop naming class valedictorians.

Even less healthy competition: the race among school boards to deny that competition exists.

  1. “We have heard from many, many schools that the competition has become very unhealthy,” school board Chairman Tom Benton told the paper.

    Why does the school board have a chairman? That makes for unhealthy competition among the board members. No one should be named chairman.
