Wednesday Night Open Thread

Hey, the week is half way over!

Sweet!

Speaking of which…

SHAMELESS PLUG WARNING

I like sweet tea. Even when it’s unsweet tea. Or so I wrote at my little blog.

You know what else is sweet? It’s time for Wednesday Night Open Thread. Which means you pick the topic. Write about whatever you like. It’s your turn to drive the conversation.

Who wants to start?

  1. Did I ever tell you what my childhood dentist said to me when I was sitting in his chair and he was drilling one of my molars at 60 rpm with a jackhammer? (Some of you might remember “the slow drills.”)

    “Real men don’t feel pain.”

I wasn’t a man yet, so that didn’t apply to me.

He’s dead now, but I’d like to go back and give him a lecture.

  2. My sweet tea is made in a Mr. Coffee Ice Tea Maker. I got it for Christmas in about 1989. I’ve replaced the pitcher once.

When I found out you could mail away for replacement parts I was thrilled to replenish my supply of monopoly houses so that I could play the game again. I was also able to replace the Russian army on my copy of Axis & Allies because I took it with me once to an overnight volunteer opportunity and somebody spilled them on the floor covered with wood shavings and they were lost to the ages.

Anyway back to the tea. Alton Brown taught me the worthlessness of tea bags but my local Walmart sells Lipton Loose Leaf Tea so that’s what I use. My local Kroger sells loose leaf herbal teas so if I want flavor added I use about a teaspoon of that.

I just wrap two tablespoons of the loose leaf tea between two coffee filters and add 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of lemon juice to the ice in the pitcher and let it do it’s magic.

The problem is that it makes two quarts and that doesn’t last long. I end up making it 2-3 times a day in the summer and it’s still gone pretty quickly between me and #2 son.

    I also like it unsweetened.

  3. Tom T. Hall, songwriter extraordinaire – the creator of some of my favorite songs, including “Faster Horses, Younger Women, Older Whiskey, More Money”, “Pamela Brown”, “I Like Beer”, and “The Year Clayton Delaney Died” is eighty-one years old today. Head on over to youtube and listen to a few tunes from the old storyteller.
