Friday Night Open Thread

One of the funniest routines I from my youth — teens, maybe — was seeing Art Metrano. Don’t remember if it was on Carson, or some other show, but his “magic” act while he accompanied himself with the music from “Fine and Dandy” was hilarious.

He was funny in the Police Academy movies, and later successfully sued Family Guy.

You know what else if fine and dandy? Open Thread time. Which is now. It’s Friday Night Open Thread, and your turn to show off your magic.

Who wants to start?

  1. John D. Rockefeller, who founded Standard Oil, drove down the prices of petroleum products every year, but still had the company broken up for anti-trust reasons into companies that are now Exxon Mobil, Chevron, and part of BP (among other companies), was born July 8, 1839. Think of him when you start your car for the first time today.

    • Kind of like Boeing in the 1930’s. He built the planes, delivered air mail and owned United Airlines. Socialists (democrats)in the congress broke up the company because if he was making money during the depression, he must be doing something wrong.

  2. I didn’t know about Metrano’s “Family Guy” lawsuit; but when I saw the Jesus/magic bit I assumed it was just another FG spoof built on an esoteric reference, not plagiarism.
