  1. I wouldn’t credit Lucas with too much intelligence. In 1977, he didn’t have as much pull as he did after Star Wars became a massive success. People could openly contradict him, or supersede him, or bully him into going their way instead of his. Major rewrites and revisions were made of his original vision (in all aspects – plot, character, pacing, visuals, everything) to keep it from being too “out there.”

    Once he COULD control everything… well, that’s how we ended up with the prequels. If you haven’t watched this (settle in, the whole series is about three and a half hours – also WAY WAY WAY NSFW) you should.
