I saw a show about alien visitation with serious scientists discussing the topic. One stated that many people expect that any combat between humanity and them would be as lopsided as the USA vs. Australian aborigines would be today. He explained why it would be even more horribly lopsided.
Until the plucky aborigines find that one secret thing that will let them ultimately triumph and rule the galaxy! At least that always happens in Science Fiction novels.
