I was a surface guy while I was in the Navy, but I did get to tour a sub once.
I’m not prone to claustrophobia, but I imagine it would’ve gotten to me after a while.

I’m thinking I would be thinking “this is a low bid boat”.
Now think about the World War II boats going out for two months or so at a time; the “fleet” boats were smaller; and the S class boats were smaller still, and most of the S class started the war with no air conditioning (and stationed in the Philippines). See for example the Gato class submarine USS Hoe.
I’ve heard the chow is pretty good though.
Your “personal space” on an Carrier was small. I can’t even imagine on a sub.
Plus navigating a sub is like taking the Birdbox Challenge.
