Thursday Night Open Thread

Never really got into They Might Be Giants. I don’t know why. I’m not a fan of their politics, but they’re not as bad in that regard as some other musicians. They’re kinda par for the course. No, I just never got into their music. Not that it’s bad. It’s not. It’s just, I don’t know, something I never got into.

  1. I’ve seen tmbg twice. The first was at
Toads in New Haven. The second was a free concert in Hartford. I think there may have been 20 years between the two.

I’ve never really been into Bob Dylan or Neil Young. Not sure what people see in them.

I’m pretty much up for anything otherwise. Grew up to 70’s and 80’s hard Rock and Metal. Grunge, alternative, Ska, hardcore, thrash, punk if I had my radio shack knock off Walkman cassette player, (it had auto reverse, bass boost, and Dolby though). If I didn’t have it, it was the golden oldies my parents had on.

Went to college and started into Phish and Dead but still would fire up some Pantera, Sepultura, Maiden, etc.

Quit school and discovered Irish folk, sea chanties, bluegrass, jazz, big band. Classical guitar. Even a little mariachi.

    I’ll leave you with some.

  2. Like Fangbeer I saw them too. It was at Rice University in the stadium. HAHAHA! Just kidding, they were in the Grand Hall which was slightly smaller than an elementary school auditorium. They weren’t political during the show so I never knew how loony they were outside of their music. Which was loony enough.

They had a song called Ana Ang which was ideal because I was trying to gain the attention of a girl named Ana Ng and tried to use it to my advantage. She enjoyed the song but I struck out.

  3. The Shiite just hit the fan!! When I first heard this on the news I thought, the Israelis did it again, and nailed another scumbag, common enemy of both them and us. Nope! It has been revealed that we did the deed. Now it’s a toss up as to whose heads will explode first with the velocity of a twenty megaton atomic bomb…the Democrats or the Ayatollahs…………………………………

  4. Washington Post: Qassem Soleimani, austere military scholar at helm of Iranian military, dies in Iraq. That’s not really the headline of tomorrow’s WaPo (at least I hope it’s not) however I’m sure by the weeks end the media will have come to the point where their hatred of Trump will cause them to call for Soleimani to be interred in the Arlington.

  5. Actually I was pretty close because the WaPo headline read…”Airstrike at Baghdad airport kills Iran’s most revered military leader, Qassem Soleimani, Iraqi state television reports.” I am willing to bet not all Iranians rever this bloodthirsty bastard.
